ESPN’s Mel Kiper recently released his latest mock draft and still has the New York Jets sticking with quarterback Josh Rosen with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.

With the 2018 NFL Draft on the horizon, many analysts and draft gurus are honed in on what they believe general managers will do once they’re on the clock. ESPN’s Mel Kiper believes he can predict what New York Jets general manager Mike Maccagnan will do with the No. 3 overall pick.

That’s right ladies and gentlemen, in Kiper’s latest mock draft, he is sticking with what he’s been saying for most of the offseason in that the Jets are taking UCLA quarterback, Josh Rosen. It’s the popular decision since out of the Big 4 at quarterback in this year’s draft class, Rosen is by far the best suited to be the next franchise quarterback of the Jets.

At the end of the day, this is a decision that will not only change the Jets for the next decade or so, but also put Maccagnan back in a positive light. It’s no secret he dropped the ball with the past two quarterbacks he’s drafted. Yes, both Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg will likely not be in the long-term plans of the Jets but this is the first time Maccagnan will have a top-five pick with his sights set on a quarterback.

More from Jets Draft

When a team gets such a high draft pick, that is for a player that is ready to start immediately or at the very least, have the upside to be a star within their first year or two. Rosen has everything you can ask for in a future franchise quarterback when it comes to his size, stats, and locker room presence. With the right coaching and training, Rosen could be the next star in the city that never sleeps and finally give the Jets a quarterback worth bragging about due to superior play on the gridiron.

Kiper believes that Rosen to the Jets is a no-brainer since, in his latest mock draft, he has the Cleveland Browns selecting quarterback Josh Allen out of Wyoming and the New York Giants selecting quarterback Sam Darnold out of USC. This leaves the Jets with a tough decision between Rosen and quarterback Baker Mayfield out of Oklahoma.

Rosen would be the safer pick here with Mayfield being the wild card. Even though Mayfield is a pure competitor and a Heisman trophy winner, he has a lot of red flags that might scare away the Jets and other teams as well due to his antics on and off the field. While Rosen also isn’t perfect due to his history of injuries, especially concussions, the Jets will likely go with Rosen over Mayfield due to his upside. Kiper continues to stick with Rosen to the Jets and rightfully so, since again, out of the Big 4, he’s the quarterback that could undoubtedly push the Jets back to being contenders again.
