NFL Network’s very own Charley Casserly just released his first mock draft of the offseason and has the New York Jets boldly selecting quarterback Baker Mayfield out of Oklahoma.
It’s no secret that the New York Jets need a new quarterback this offseason in order to have better production from the most important position on the team. Ideally, they’d like to either land a top free agent quarterback that is ready to make some serious noise or draft a solid one in April. Either way, expect the Jets to hopefully land a quarterback that is worth building a franchise around for many years to come.
So far this offseason, various mock drafts have hit the internet that envisions the Jets going in various different directions. Some believe they’ll use the No. 6 overall pick on a cornerback. Others have them adding a top offensive lineman that will be an anchor for years to come. The majority have the Jets taking a quarterback with hopes of him being “the guy” to lead them back into playoff contention.
NFL Network’s Charley Casserly just dropped his first mock draft of the offseason and has boldly predicted the Jets end up drafting quarterback Baker Mayfield with the No. 6 overall pick. Casserly asked football fans in his mock draft if they felt Mayfield will have the best NFL career of any quarterback in this year’s class.

Of course, that’s the kind of question that won’t be fully answered until a few years from now but Casserly’s pick for the Jets is indeed an interesting one. While one can make the argument for the Jets to stay far away from Mayfield due to his immaturity and inability to keep his emotions in check, one can’t question his talent and desire to do whatever it takes to win football games.
Perhaps that is why Casserly has the Jets taking the Heisman Trophy winner due to everything he brings to the table. Maybe under the right leadership and mentoring, he can mature into being a professional on and off the field while being a leader of men.
Either way, it will be interesting to see what the Jets ultimately do this offseason since there is a very strong chance they finally land a franchise quarterback to speed up the rebuilding process. If it ends up being Mayfield come draft time, he would most likely bring a spark the likes of which this franchise hasn’t seen in quite some time.
