Heading into Week 16 fantasy football, it’s best to not waste a starting spot on rookie running back Elijah McGuire due to dealing with an illness all week long in addition to being phased out on offense.
Make no mistake about it, rookie running back Elijah McGuire has a bright future ahead of him but will need a few more years of continued development to hone his craft to the next level. So far this season, besides one big game back in Week 4 against the Jacksonville Jaguars, he’s been limited in reps due to bring third on the depth chart at running back for the New York Jets. All things considered, he won’t do much of anything in Week 16 fantasy football against the Los Angeles Chargers.
In the grand scheme of things, besides McGuire getting very little reps per game due to Matt Forte and Bilal Powell ahead of him respectively, he’s just not a viable option this week in fantasy football. Even more so since for a certain few across the globe, it’s championship week which means every single decision will undoubtedly be the reason you win or lose it all.
It also doesn’t help that McGuire has missed practice this week due to an illness which doesn’t bode well at all for him to have a big impact on Sunday. While he should still play, he will once again continue to be limited in the opportunities given to him to make use of his unique skill-set.

Sit McGuire this week and don’t even think twice about it. If you’re looking for a viable replacement for running back or even in the FLEX position, make sure to look elsewhere. If you’re a huge Jets fan and also picked up Powell, he would easily be worth starting over McGuire.

Overall, sit McGuire and hopefully, you’ve made all the right choices to leave this week victorious. McGuire just won’t be someone to get you there, unfortunately.
