Don’t let the preseason fool you as quarterback Christian Hackenberg will get another shot to silence his critics at some point this season.

Quarterback Christian Hackenberg will be starting at some point this season for the New York Jets. Let’s face facts here, Josh McCown will either go down at some point this season due to injury or poor play. This does not paint a great picture either way for “The Hack.”

The supporting cast around does not spell success in any way and really will not make him look good at all. The offensive line has so many questions marks in it that I didn’t even realize who some of them are even after the starting depth chart was released a few days ago. It honestly is not fair for Hackenberg who deserves better.

The Penn State prodigy will have a lot of eyes on him this season, with the newly acquired Jeremy Kerley, the deadly (LOL) Jermaine Kearse, youthful Matt Forte, and the well known Eric Tomlinson at tight end, the deck is really stacked against the “Hack Attack.” It truly is a shame that this is how Hackenberg’s Jets career will come to an end. I truly hope that he can get picked up somewhere else with some weapons so we can really get a good look at who he could or can’t be in this league. Preferably a team with a somewhat competent offensive line so he can have at least one second to get his reads down and throw.

The sad thing is that we will see Hackenberg start a regular season game in 2017 but it will be taken with a grain of salt due to the players around him. Now, I am in no way saying that he can be an all time great with real players around him but I am saying that the tools are there for him to succeed with talent around him. He would not be a 2nd round pick if this was not the case. Either

He would not be a 2nd Round pick if this was not the case. Either way, this is going to be a lost season and should set the tone for the future of the franchise. The offensive line needs to be addressed along with the quarterback position. Depending on how this season goes, Hackenberg most likely will not be part of future plans anyway, so might as well give him a shot so his future can have a chance at being bright.
