The New York Jets entered their first game of the preseason and left victorious. Here are a few takeaways from their win over the Tennessee Titans.

The first preseason game is in the books for the New York Jets which ended with a 7-3 win. Who performed well? It would be foolish to overreact to one preseason game, but here are some takeaways from Saturday’s action that Jet fans should be pleased with.

At this time last year, the Jets had the best wide receiver duo in the entire league in Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker, but now the positional group is one of the many weaknesses on this team. This was before the season ending injury Quincy Enunwa suffered, without him, it is safe to say that the Jets have the worst wide receiver corps in the NFL.

Based on his game against the Titans, it’s easy to see wide receiver Robby Anderson will be relied upon to be the top receiving option for the Jets offense, and in his limited action on Saturday, he played like it. Anderson caught three passes for 71 yards, including a 53-yarder which set up the only touchdown of the game. We will see if Anderson can get better throughout the year.

On the other side of the football, another takeaway was the limited action of safety Jamal Adams who showed his leadership qualities right off the bat.

He was constantly communicating with teammates in-between plays. Leadership is important as by the early looks of it, Adams can be a leader on defense for years to come.

His excellent versatility was also put on display Saturday night as he was lined up all over the field. He played six snaps as a safety, three snaps as a slot cornerback and two snaps as a linebacker. Will the Jets use Adams like this in the regular season? It remains to be seen but by the looks of it, he’s going to be quite the cornerstone on defense.

Easily the biggest takeaway of this preseason Week 1 matchup was how dominant the Jets defensive line was. The Jets have one of the most talented defensive lines in all of football headlined by Leonard Williams, Muhammad Wilkerson, and Sheldon Richardson. The Jets were constantly able to put pressure on Tennessee’s quarterbacks, and they were going up against one of the best offensive lines in the NFL.

Entering his third season in the league, Williams is the best player not only on the defensive line but on the whole team. Wilkerson and Richardson are both coming off of down years, but if the two of them can bounce back and play like how they have before, the Jets defense could surprise a lot of people this upcoming season.
