Jets may have found hidden gem at fullback in Anthony Firkser
By Samuel Sutton
The New York Jets have been waiting for a successful fullback, and they may have found him in Harvard’s Anthony Firkser.
If the New York Jets want to have success with this young offense, then they will need to focus heavily on the ground game and on short passes. Using a fullback would help a lot with that. Fortunately for them, they were able to find a talented player in Harvard fullback and tight end Anthony Firkser.
The team picked him up after the 2017 NFL Draft and since they already drafted a tight end, it seems pretty obvious that they’re going to put him at the fullback position. He would be a great fullback because he’s a tough runner, a good blocker, and a pretty good pass catcher.
He was only used as a tight end in college, but he was able to show off his blocking and running ability in that position. While he never took a handoff at Harvard, he showed that he can be a strong runner whenever he caught the football.

In college, he racked up 1,559 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns on less than 100 receptions.
The Jets have a lot of young talent at quarterback, which means they are going to need an extra pass blocker.
With a fullback on the field, they would be able to get that security.
The Jets need to focus on a West Coast type of offense, and using a fullback would be needed if they are to do this. Firkser was a great pick up by this team, and he would be able to fill in this position really well.
A fullback who can catch, block and run can be very valuable, and Firkser can do all of these things. He may have been the best free agent pickup the Jets have had all offseason.
