As the New York Jets prepare this offseason for a tough season ahead, support by their loyal fan base will be key during a rebuilding period.

Whether you want to accept reality or not, the New York Jets are indeed in a rebuilding period. They have purged the roster for the most part of aging veterans and players who didn’t hold their weight to earn a roster spot. It’s going to be tough to watch the Jets play this upcoming season but the most important thing as fans is to support this team every step of the way.

If you’ve been watching the Jets since Joe Namath was guaranteeing a Super Bowl victory or when they went to back-to-back AFC Championship Games a number of years ago, it’s always good to root for your team no matter what. Every season, the goal should remain the same in doing everything possible to field a winning product that can go the distance in the postseason.

Head coach Todd Bowles and his new coaching staff are making sure that despite the elephant in the room of a roster being rebuilt for a brighter future, this team will compete. Last season was a complete and utter disaster but things should be completely different this time around.

This time around, the roster is filled with a plethora of young talent ready to make a name for themselves. 2017 shouldn’t be defined by wins and losses but rather, progression and development. Now, it’s hard to predict just how many wins the Jets will have at the end of the season, but this team by the looks of it so far this offseason, will make sure that hard work, going the extra mile, and hustling on every play will define the common theme across the roster.

More from The Jet Press

Last year, the Jets looked like they gave up. They had no sense of urgency, no purpose, and worst of all, no identity. Bowles and his coaching staff will ensure that history doesn’t repeat itself as fans won’t find players taking a play off or leaving the field with their uniform being the cleanest.

It’s imperative that fans see that despite a lack of developed talent, the potential is there for an extremely bright future. It might take another year or two for this team to be ready to compete for a spot in the NFL Playoffs but the building blocks are already in place to where all is needed is patience. Yes, patience will be key in the grand scheme of things.

For fans that will be in attendance at every home game this upcoming season, keep those J-E-T-S JETS! JETS! JETS! going loud and root this team as much as you can. When the energy at home is nice and loud, these players will play even harder to win. When fans are clapping, cheering, and getting excited when their offense is in 1st and goal situations, everyone will step up and ensure they end the drive with a touchdown. When fans are standing up to cheer their defense in 3rd and short situations, they will rise to the occasion and make a key defensive stop.

Whatever you do, don’t boo this team no matter what the record is if you’re actually attending a game. Even if they’re 1-6 at a home game in MetLife Stadium, don’t make these players sulk. Support this team and fully understand that Rome wasn’t built in a day. Put your trust in this leadership regime that although it’s going to take a few years, it’ll all be worth it when the Jets have an incredible roster full of youth, an established franchise quarterback, and a coaching staff ready to make history once again.
