Colts vs Jets: Final Week 13 post game grades

In the Colts vs Jets Week 13 matchup, Gang Green, for lack of a better word, were demolished on Monday Night Football, 41-10. Here are your post game grades for the embarrassment that was… Jets football.

It isn’t easy to watch the New York Jets anymore. Heck, you could even see it in the faces of fans in attendance during Week 13’s Monday Night Football Colts vs Jets matchup. Just like the players, nobody was really into this game from start to finish.

It’s one thing to lose and be competitive but a completely different situation when the overall culture of the Jets is this bad. From a lack of urgency to a coaching staff that doesn’t live in reality, this season can’t end soon enough.

Regardless, here are some post grades for the impact players, or rather, the guys wearing the green and white uniform who thought they could play professional football. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, it was that bad.

Without further ado, here are your post grades from Week 13’s Colts vs Jets game which saw Indianapolis completely bury Gang Green and finally end their hopes this season.

Quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick: F

Aren’t we lucky to have a Harvard grad under center? No, we are not. The culmination of this whole year was portrayed in this single week. Extremely inconsistent, carefree, and unenthusiastic.

It was a matter of time before Fitz threw a pick, and throwing it into double-coverage, was textbook Jets. The under-one-minute opening drive? So Jets. The only surprise was Fitz throwing a pick that late in the game. I was expecting one early in the first quarter.

Next: Quarterback Bryce Petty

Quarterback Bryce Petty: C-

Alright, it is now clear that the hype for Petty has been brought to a simmer, due to his lackluster ability to remain consistent. But, how could we blame him? It’s his second year in, and he’s had very limited time to execute the playbook alongside the first-team.

Being thrown into the dumpster-fire down 34-3, it was clear that Petty wanted to connect with Robby Anderson right from the get-go. He flared his arm, showing his ability to heave downfield; only to be picked off after consecutive misses long to Anderson.

Eventually, Petty would hit Anderson for the receiver’s first professional touchdown. Petty would be intercepted again later in the fourth, in which would end the game, as the Colts would run down the clock. Also, Petty is starting the final four games of the season! Yay? Eh. Just end it.

Running Back Matt Forte: C

Forte was the team’s leading receiver until Petty hit Anderson for a 40-yard garbage-time touchdown. Forte had three grabs for 54 yards; one going for 40.

The veteran would only carry the ball nine times for just 25 yards. This was due to the horrendous Jets defense giving up 21 points in the first quarter, with Colts tight end Dwayne Allen cashing in for all three scores. There’s really nothing that Forte could’ve done, as he did the most that he could’ve possibly done with such limited opportunities.

Wide Receiver Robby Anderson: B

Anderson was targeted a team-high 12 times, bringing in four for 61 yards and a touchdown. It is clear that Anderson is the deep-threat favorite for whoever is under center, as his speed is top-notch. On the downside, Anderson is undersized, usually leaving him vulnerable to most defensive backs in the NFL in terms of strength and being able to haul in passes in close-coverage.

Next: Wide Receivers Quincy Enunwa & Brandon Marshall

Wide Receivers Quincy Enunwa & Brandon Marshall: D-

I feel bad for these guys. Both of their seasons are tampered with due to horrendous quarterback play. Brandon Marshall is having such a down year it’s painful to watch. Quincy is having a great year, most definitely his uprising in the NFL, but it’s so inconsistent.

One game he’ll be targeted 10 times and have a couple of explosive plays, while the next game will be a dud like it was on MNF. Enunwa was looked at just twice, and had a catch for 10 yards, while Marshall had 8 targets in which he turned in 4 catches and 43 yards.

They say everything can change in a New York minute, and things have done just that weekly, in terms of the production that both receivers are able to conduct.

Defensive Line: D

Boy oh boy. Another game with no sacks? C’mon. Remember after Week 1, people (including myself), thought this was the year that we’d see a return of the “New York Sack Exchange?” That 1981 New York Jets line consisting of Mark Gastineau, Joe Klecko, Marty Lyons and Abdul Salaam, led the league with 66 (!!!!) sacks.

After the game against Cincinnati, the 2016 Jets racked up 7. Since then? 12. They have 19 total sacks, good enough for 31st in the league; trailing only the Cleveland Browns (17). Leonard Williams had a team-high 10 tackles (3 solo), and had the team’s lone sack of the game, giving him six on the year. He’s doubled his total from his rookie campaign last year.

Muhammad Wilkerson continues to look uninterested and has tagged along Sheldon Richardson, who had one — ONE — tackle. The bright spot for this defensive line is its past. Damon Harrison is having an amazing year right next door for the Giants, and even that hurts my heart.

Next: Linebacker Darron Lee

Linebacker Darron Lee: B

Lee has been one of the few players to actually show up for the Jets’ defense, and team in general. The 20th overall pick out of Ohio State has overachieved, in my opinion, for his rookie campaign. I wasn’t expecting him to play as much as he has, but due to injuries, Lee has had to fill in the void that is the Jets’ second-level of defense.

There are things that he does have to work on, obviously, and you could see that in the game Monday. On both touchdown catches by Dwayne Allen (his third) and Donte Moncrief, it was Lee in coverage.

Known as a hybrid, Lee was outmuscled against Allen and was outrun by Moncrief. No linebacker should be matched up against a wide receiver, but Lee’s effort was the most vibrant of anyone on that field for the Jets. Lee has been praised by fellow teammate David Harris for his knowledge and ability to quarterback the defense, and it is apparent in his play. There is still much to be worked on, as it is, again, his rookie season. But, nonetheless, the kid has been a stud to the rather putrid Jets defense.

Cornerback Darrelle Revis: D

Oh where, oh where has Darrelle Revis gone? Oh where, oh where could he be? Beats me, and it sure beats every Jets fan. Don’t deny it. Revis was torched yet again against Indy, and there really isn’t much to say that hasn’t been said already. He’s openly admitted to breaking down and not being able to play like he used to.

Respectable, but not helping the fact that you get beat by people from Greg Salas, to Chris Hogan. Now, it’s gotten past the fact that it pains my heart to watch him play. Unfortunately, it simply just gives me headaches.
