The New York Jets will continue having their wide receiver corps be a strength on offense. Who will end up being their starters heading into the regular season?
The wide receiver position for the New York Jets is the strongest it’s been for decades with two legitimate superstars and 2-3 reliable backups making it one of the deepest groups on the team.

With Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker committing for another year to the Jets, the tandem look to be the best 1-2 in the NFL and will be looking to build on that this upcoming season. Also behind those two are a couple of other spots which could be classified as starters as well, with the likes of Kenbrell Thompkins, Devin Smith who’s coming off an ACL injury ,Quincy Enunwa and newly drafted wideout Charone Peake who many people consider one of the steals of the 2016 NFL Draft.
With offensive coordinator Chan Gailey using quite a lot of four wide receiver sets, it gives the quarterback whoever it will be plenty of options to go through progressions. It will also help spread out the field and additionally gives their running back plenty of room with a less crowded tackle box, meaning the top four wide receivers will see plenty of time on the field together.
Have a look below as we dive deeper into the two main starters and why they will be successful.

Left Side: Brandon Marshall
Marshall’s trade to Gang Green was by far the best move the general manager Mike Maccagnan has made at the helm.
He was picked up from the Chicago Bears in the 2014 offseason for a 7th Round pick.
Marshall made an immediate impact as the No. 1 receiver and thrived on offense.
Marshall set franchise records in both receptions (109) as well as total receiving yards (1,502) and led the team with 14 touchdowns on the season. He was a great weapon on any kind of route and showed his blocking ability as well on many counter/toss plays where he freed up the running back.
Look for him to have another massive year and continue to be a great end zone threat, in particular on the long ball which as his main strength last year being able to use his body to jump up and grab huge receptions.
Right Side/Slot: Eric Decker
Decker had a different role from his first season with the Jets, but was just as efficient as a #2/slot receiver grabbing 1,027 yards and 12 TD’s last season. He became a great threat in the passing game, particularly on those slant routes coming out of the slot as well as in the end zone on fades.
More jets: Exclusive interview with Jace Amaro
One of the more memorable fade routes being in Week 16 against the New England Patriots in overtime. He comes into his third year as a Jet in 2016 and with tight end Jace Amaro coming back from injury, look for him to play a little more on the outside than last year but still very effective in the slot.
