In Super Bowl 50, it will come down to which team plays shut down defense. Expect to see linebacker Von Miller ensure he does his part straight to being named MVP of the big game.

As we enter Super Bowl 50, most of the questions are about how much Peyton Manning can do.  Some questions surround Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers dominating the game, but, honestly, I have noticed a trend lately in sports. Normally when the entire (or almost the entire) public thinks a game or series will go one way, generally, it will go in another direction.

The Denver Broncos’ defense will be a huge factor in this game, and Von Miller will win the MVP after a huge performance.  When it comes to the betting line, the Broncos opened as a 3.5 point underdog.  Since the betting opened, the line has grown, to 6.0.  The line is driven by how people bet.  The line growth shows that most people are betting on the Panthers to win.

I think more questions should surround the Broncos’ defense.  In Super Bowl LXVII, a defensive player won the Super Bowl MVP.  In doing so, Malcolm Smith became only the ninth defensive player to win the award.

Despite all the expectations, the Broncos’ defense will have a lot to say about the result of this game.  Some expect Newton to be able to run over and through this defense, like he has done all season long.

Generally speaking, if you’re a defense dominated team, unless you have a great quarterback, the defense will get looks for MVP.  The only Super Bowls that had an offensive player win the MVP and were defense dominated were the New York Giants (Super Bowls XXI, XXV, XLII, XLVI) and the Pittsburgh Steelers (Super Bowls IX, X, XIII, XIV, XL and XLIII).

Without the great play from the defense, the Broncos wouldn’t even have made the NFL Playoffs, considering the play of Manning.  That won’t change in Super Bowl 50.  The Broncos will ride their defense and running game to a Super Bowl title if they want to win.  They can’t expect to win a shootout.

In the fourth quarter of the big game, NFL.com will open the fan voting for MVP.  Manning may receive some sentimental votes as the game progresses, but Miller will end up deserving the vote when all is said and done.

Miller will have double digit tackles, as I predict he’ll have 2.5 sacks and he will fool Newton into thinking he will be blitzing.  On that play, he will intercept a pass off of pressure from the opposite side and take it to the house.

The Broncos’ defense will be integral in what should be a close game.  It will be a low scoring battle all the way through the game, and Miller will be all over the Panthers.  His presence will be the most integral part of the Broncos’ defense and them winning it all.  He will finish it all holding the Super Bowl MVP trophy high and proud that he was indeed the X-factor in this match-up.
