The NY Jets have made a ton of headlines across the internet for all the right reasons as their incredible defensive statistics are proving they are capable of anything this season.
Jets-Patriots Preview by Sports Illustrated (SI.com)
"While New England has cruised to its first 5-0 start since a 16-0 regular season in 2007 behind its high-powered offense, stifling defense has New York at 4-1 for the first time since 2010 – the last year it made the playoffs."
This Week 7 matchup is easily the biggest matchup for both teams when one truly thinks about it. The Jets field one of the top defenses in the NFL and will go up against the high-octane top offense of the New England Patriots. Add in the great story line of the fact that Darrelle Revis helped the Patriots tremendously last year in becoming Super Bowl champs yet defected anyway back home to the Jets will add even more intrigue to this game. It should be a great and physical matchup that will more than likely come down to the final few plays of the game.
Some Neat New York Jets Defense Statistics by Scott Salmon (GangGreenNation.com)
"You know, we really need a dope (as the kids these days might call it) nickname for the New York Jets defense. Here are some neat-o statistics and facts about the best defense in the league"
The Jets’ defense could actually use a great nickname. If it were up to me, I’d call them the “Green Slayers of Football” you know, something that has a heavy metal and aggressive feel to it. Going back to topic, I very much enjoy that the Jets’ defense is making all sorts of great headlines for all the right reasons thanks to just how incredible their defense has been. They’re causing havoc, creating turnovers and have a sense of pride in that nothing and no one will be able to penetrate this defensive group. Can’t wait to see how this unit does against the Patriots this week.
Six NFL Stats That Show the Jets Are No. 1 by Randy Lange (NewYorkJets.com)
"Led by Chris Ivory and his blockers, the Jets rolled to 221 rushing yards against Washington, which lifted their average to 146.0 yards/game and their rank from seventh to first for the first time this season. Last time the Jets were No. 1 in rushing offense this late in a season: nine of the last 11 weeks of the 2009 season, when Thomas Jones held sway."
The Jets are clicking on all cylinders even though things haven’t been perfect on offense. Quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick still has yet to have a game where he doesn’t commit an interception but at the end of the day, the Jets are winning and that fixes everything really. I’d rather take an ugly win than a devastating loss so it is what it is. I’m sure Fitzpatrick will hit the film room and do his best to limit the turnovers he’s committing. He can’t commit a single mistake if the Jets plan to beat the Patriots on the road on their home turf.
Why Tom Brady is so concerned about facing Darrelle Revis by Brian Costello (New York Post)
"“He’s got, obviously, an intimate knowledge of how we do things,” Patriots quarterback Tom Brady said Tuesday on WEEI radio, “and kind of the skill set of our players and our formations, and vice versa. I know how he likes to play things. His play style is very similar to what it’s always been."
Revis will be playing a huge factor in this game from both on the field and in preparation. He has a ton of knowledge of the Patriots’ offense and is considered the top cornerback playing today so he’ll definitely be an x-factor. I expect to see this game produce some great highlights as both teams know what it at stake. The Patriots will want to make an example of another AFC East neighbor while the Jets want to make even bigger headlines by handing them their first loss of the season. This will probably be one of the most watched and talked about football games of the week.
