NY Jets News: Cromartie bashes Odell Beckham Jr.

The NY Jets made some big headlines thanks to comments made by Antonio Cromartie who recently chimed his thoughts on phenom wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.

Antonio Cromartie waiting for more from Odell Beckham Jr. by Ohm Youngmisuk (ESPN)

"“Right now, he’s a one-year wonder,” Cromartie said Friday. “I’m just being honest. It’s just one year. I need to see it on an every-game basis … not him getting penalties or something like that or sucker-punching somebody. I think it’s all about how you carry yourself throughout your whole, entire career.”"

I don’t understand why Cromartie would give such bulletin-board material to the New York Giants, considering they don’t even play each other until December. Did Cromartie miss the memo by head coach Todd Bowles about staying away from making comments like this to the media? We all remember the Porsche comments made by Willie Colon this past summer regarding Geno Smith and how that all blew up, so why bring things like this back?

Personally I think Beckham is indeed one of the best receivers I’ve seen in a very long time. I wouldn’t call him a one-year wonder but it’s clear he has potential to truly have a huge impact on the NFL and the Giants for years to come. Cromartie should stay away from chiming in his thoughts on other players and focus on the Jets and their task at hand.

Inside look at Brandon Marshall’s fast start with Jets by Rich Cimini (ESPN)

"Marshall has been a high-volume receiver throughout his career, so there were questions before the season about how he’d react to fewer opportunities in a balanced offense. It hasn’t been an issue because, even though they’ve been fairly balanced between the run and pass, Marshall is being fed his usual diet of balls."

There is no question on how great Marshall has been. So far this season, Marshall has totaled 400 receiving yards on 30 receptions for 3 touchdowns. He’s been everything the Jets would have hoped for and then some. His presence has been one of the big reasons why the Jets started the first quarter of the season at 3-1.

Marshall will only continue to improve as the season progresses and eventually have a breakout game here and there. It’s great to see what a receiver of his size and experience brings to the table since the Jets haven’t had such a talent on their wide receiver corps in years. Marshall has so far been a solid member on offense and will surely keep things up.

A Healthy Chris Ivory Emerges as the Jets’ Secret Weapon by Tom Pedulla (New York Times)

"“His style, his physical nature — he’s a great representation of what we are trying to be as Jets, a strong, physical guy who gives 100 percent effort on every play.”"

I can’t speak highly enough of Chris Ivory and what he’s done so far for the Jets this season. Considering he was dealing with a groin injury that unfortunately caused him to miss a game, he still rose to the occasion and delivered one of his best games yet against the Miami Dolphins before the bye week.

There is no telling just how far this team can go if Ivory continues to play at such a high level. He’s playing with purpose and is focused on delivering his best season yet. I’m quite confident that if he gets close to or hits over 1,000 rushing yards, the Jets should definitely be poised for a trip to the NFL Playoffs.

NY Jets: The First Quarter by WilkersontoHawaii (GangGreenNation.com)

"Jets fans had a lot of expectations for coming into the season. After being stashed down on the depth chart, Bowles revealed that he wasn’t going to be used as an inline tight end, but that he’d still have a large role receiving. Jace Amaro"

It’s great to see many fellow sites and analysts that cover the Jets believe the team put up a solid first quarter of the NFL season. The Jets still have much work ahead of them to fix all their issues with miscues on offense, a high amount of penalties and finishing up their tackles. Their tight end situation is also a weak link since they’re being primarily used as blockers for the Jets’ running game.

Regardless though, I’m sure plenty of other teams out there would love to be at 3-1 heading into a bye week. The Jets will face a long road ahead where the competition will only get better and any little mistake will be the difference between winning and losing. This is the perfect time to correct these issues and prepare for the rest of the season.
