The New York Jets were hoping to start the season off 3-0 as many believed they would steamroll the Philadelphia Eagles this past weekend but unfortunately, things didn’t go as planned. This was a perfect “trap” game as the Eagles came out swinging and made sure to make the Jets pay for any costly mistakes and turnovers.
The Eagles did just that to the tune of 24-17 and handed the Jets their very first loss of the season. Of course there is still plenty of football to be played and much game film to study but players of the Jets all chimed in their disappointment and positive outlook for the future.
We here at The Jet Press would like to thank the Media Relations Department of the Jets for sending us complete transcripts from many players across the team about their Week 3 loss. Take a look at the top 8 player quotes directly from their press conferences with the media after the game. Enjoy!

8. One turnover is not enough (Demario Davis)
On giving up 24 points in the first half…
There’s four quarters of football. The only thing that matters is what the score says in the fourth quarter. We came up a little short. We have to get it fixed and get ready for next week.
On Darren Sproles and Ryan Mathews making for a tough matchup…
They have good players on their team. They made more plays than us. Defensively, we didn’t get enough turnovers, so they won the game.
On how the Eagles tested them differently…
I don’t know which way; they had good stuff that kept us off-balance. They made some good plays in the first half. They protected the ball.
On if he felt a momentum change after the fumble recovery…
We only got one turnover today, I believe, so that’s not enough. We need to get more turnovers.
Next: 7. On how the Eagles disrupted the Jets' offense

7. On how the Eagles disrupted the Jets’ offense (D’Brickashaw Ferguson)
On how it feels after a loss like this…
It’s unfortunate that we didn’t get the victory, but we recognize that we have a long season. We’re going to go out there, execute and hopefully turn our fate around next week.
On how important it is to make necessary corrections heading into next week…
It’s very important. We had, I believe four turnovers, multiple penalties and that’s not going to get it. We need to make sure that we’re focused, we execute and we play better football.
On if this loss sticks with them knowing they had 92 more yards on offense than the Eagles…
No, we recognize that there were some errors made throughout the game that stunted our drives. When you have penalties, when you don’t execute, all that leads to an unfavorable result. We’re a strong team, we believe in mental toughness and this is just a bump in where we’re trying to go.
On how nice it would have been to come out of this game 3-0…
We don’t want to live too much in the ‘what would have, could have happened.’ We recognize that it would be great to win all of our games. We have to make sure that we take it one game at a time. We have to make sure that we’re doing everything that we can to focus in on our opponent and execute at a high level.
On what the Eagles did to disrupt the offense…
I think we just had a lot of self-inflicted wounds. They’re a talented team, they play aggressively, but I think there were some areas where we as a team could have just played better and taken care of things that would have caused us to have a better outcome.
Next: 6. Tough to watch from the sidelines

6. Tough to watch from the sidelines (Chris Ivory)
On how tough it is to watch the offense struggle and not be able to play…
It’s tough. We got off to a slow start like we’ve been doing, but we never came out of it this game. I think those guys played the box up a lot. We’ve been getting that all year, we usually know how to deal with it pretty well. This game we struggled a little bit early on and most of the game. It’s going to get better. This is a learning tool for us.
On the decision behind being active but not playing…
It was a decision (the team) made. I felt comfortable enough to play, but I just didn’t want it to be something that would linger around. The decision was on them and kind of what I was able to explain to them.
Next: 5. Too many turnovers hurt

5. Too many turnovers hurt (Jeremy Kerley)
On why the offense did not have success…
I think we came out a little flat. Didn’t come out as fast as we should have. They played a good game. We should have converted earlier. There was a third down that I should have converted on. I just think we came out flat.
On how much the four turnovers hurt…
Whenever you have four turnovers in a game it is hard to overcome. It’s the opposite of last week and you see the outcome. We just need to make sure we take care of the ball.
On if the short patterns by the offense allowed the Eagles defense to play closer to the line of scrimmage…
You can say that. Every defense plays different. I think our game plan was pretty good. We had some drops early. We had some opportunities we should have converted on. Myself in particular. It can go either way.
On how it felt to get back in the end zone…
It felt good. It felt real good.
Next: 4. Wrong time to gamble on a lateral play

4. Wrong time to gamble on a lateral play (Brandon Marshall)
On overcoming the deficit vs. Eagles…
When you have a strong team with good character, you’re always in it, especially when it’s the first half. It’s a long ball game. We just didn’t have enough and didn’t make a play when we had to.
On getting into offensive rhythm without Ivory and Decker…
It definitely hurts when you don’t have your starters out there. Ivory makes this thing go. Decker helps out when teams try to roll coverage. But there’s no excuse. We have more than enough depth to get the job done.
On the attempted lateral play…
Wrong time to gamble. I was pressing trying to make a play, but you can’t do that. That was probably the worst play in NFL history…You can’t do that. The damage outweighs the reward so much…I think we were down 17-0 at that point and that might have been the first real catch. I saw Cumberland sitting there. It was too late to do it. If I was going to do it, I should’ve done it a little earlier. But you can’t do that, that’s backyard football. It was a bonehead play.
On the slow offensive start…
Not making plays when they were there. It was all 11 guys. So it’s on us not making the plays when the plays were called…Sometimes it’s like that where guys aren’t making plays. I look at myself. I wasn’t getting open. I wasn’t making a play. That puts our offense in a bind. I think everyone knows I’m a guy where a lot of offense is going to go through. So if I’m not getting open and making my play, that’s going to hurt us. And that’s what happened.
On the self-inflicted wounds…
They’re definitely out of character for us because we’ve done a great job the first two games, and also the last two games of the preseason, of not shooting ourselves in the foot. We came out and did exactly that.
On dealing with the loss…
I always say ‘you can’t hang from the rafters when you win and you can’t bow your head when you lose.’ We definitely have to get back and understand what we did wrong, but at the same time we’ve got to move forward as quickly as possible.

On the overall performance…
I played like crap today, to be honest with you. The interception I gave up, I thought the safety was right there so I tried to catch it really quick and bring it in. I short-armed it and gave up a pick. That’s on me. There are a few things I did in the passing game where I didn’t get open the way I wanted to. I gave the cornerbacks too much and put [Fitzpatrick] and our offense in a bad position.
On the team’s performance first two weeks versus today…
We got behind early. I can speak for myself and, I’m assuming, there may have been a couple of other guys where we were trying to get back [in the game] too quickly. You’ve got to take it one play at a time. You can’t press, especially in those moments. There was a lot of ball left and we got down 17-0. We wanted to make that play. You can’t put too much pressure on yourself and you’ve got to understand that all you’ve got to do is worry about that play.
On topping 10,000 career receiving yards today…
Maybe after our next win I’ll be able to digest that and take it all in. It sucks when things like that happen with a loss. I’m focused on one thing and that’s wins…I can’t really wrap my head around it right now because I’m so disappointed in my performance and disappointed in the loss. I’ll be able to digest it in a few hours or maybe after our next win.
Next: 3. Revis Island will be just fine

3. Revis Island will be just fine (Darrelle Revis)
On how he felt after the game…
Fine. I feel fine.
On if he was able to function with his hamstring…
I will be fine.
On if it’s deflating when the defense takes the ball away but the offense turns it back over…
It happens. It’s part of the game. Turnovers are part of the game. The Eagles came right back and responded by getting the turnover. It’s how the game goes sometimes. It happens,
On being down 24-0…
It’s hard to come back from. Your down 24, it is just hard. No matter what the record is. No matter who you play. It’s tough. We put ourselves in the hole early on. We tried to claw back as much as we could. It wasn’t what we wanted. But when adversity strikes, you have to respond.
On playing against the Eagles up-tempo offense…
Going against the no huddle is tough. It’s very up-tempo. They were a step faster than us today. We were trying to claw back and trying to make play as best we could. Sam Bradford did a great job on not turning over the ball. They had a great game.
Next: 2. Excited to return from injury

2. Excited to return from injury (Devin Smith)
On how it felt to be hit for the first time after coming back from an injury…
It’s football. I wasn’t thinking (about it) at all when I got hit. Leading up to this game, when I was coming back, I wasn’t thinking about getting hit. It’s football. You’re going to get hit.
On playing with Ryan Fitzpatrick for the first time…
He’s a vet. He’s going to put the ball where it needs to be. He’s going to run the offense. Like I said, you can’t put everything on one person. It’s a group effort. We just have to take care of the ball better and create turnovers.
On how disappointing of a loss this was…
I think anybody would be disappointed in losing. So, it’s very frustrating because of how hard we work, but you can’t dwell on one game. It’s early in the season and it’s a long season, so I’m just going to put this behind us and look forward to next week.
On his timing with Fitzpatrick…
When I came in, I was a different type of receiver than these other guys, so it’s all about adjusting. We are going to adjust to each other. We’re going to jump back into it next week, get the work in, and we’ll be fine.
Next: 1. We beat ourselves

1. We beat ourselves (Leonard Williams)
On the late comeback…
They just got a big lead on us in the first half, 24-0, we came out in the second half strong but like I said, we weren’t creating enough turnovers to give our offense opportunities and we kind of dug ourselves in a hole to deep to get back in the second half.
On if they did anything to surprise them…
They were doing everything that we studied, and like I said, the one thing that coach always harps on is; whether we win or lose, we win on ourselves and beat ourselves. It’s always us, not the other team. They played a great game.
