New York Jets: Eric Decker discusses big victory

The New York Jets starting off their 2015 regular season with a big win over the Cleveland Browns to the tune of 31-10. Wide receiver Eric Decker had a quiet game but still did his part to help the cause with his final stats totaling 37 receiving yards on 2 receptions and a touchdown. Expect to see Decker’s stats open up more as the season progresses thanks to his transition back into his more comfortable No. 2 receiver spot on the roster.

The Jet Press would like to thank the Media Relations Department of the Jets for sending us a complete transcript on what Decker thought about the big victory over the Browns, his touchdown and much more. Enjoy!

On what it means to see Todd Bowles get his first win as head coach…

It’s nice to always get that win out of the way—the first one. He deserves it. He’s done a good job throughout the offseason and preseason of talking about being disciplined. We came out today, we had just one turnover. We won that battle. (We) had less penalties than the other team. That’s a lot of credit to the coaching staff. Overall, it was a good team win and it was nice to get it for him.

On his touchdown catch in the second quarter…

It was a critical drive for us. To be able to take the lead into halftime, kind of change the momentum. In the second half, our defense came out and just (was) lights outs, making turnovers. We did a good job of running the football and executing when we got down in the red area. So overall, it was a good team win.

On the impact of Brandon Marshall’s strip after the ball was intercepted…

It was a huge play. We have turnovers, that just flips the table, to be able to get the ball back. Where we had it, inside the 10, that can be a 14-point swing. So, credit to him for not giving up on that play and making one—(helping) us being able to create a play and finish that drive.

On whether there is calmness around the team this year because of Bowles’ personality…

I would say you reflect who your leader is and like you said, Todd has a very calm, quiet demeanor. And you can just see that the confidence in the locker room is that quiet swagger. We’ve got playmakers on both sides. When we make a play, we rally around one another, but we expect that. Obviously, I think the biggest thing that he’s brought, it showed especially in the first game, is creating turnovers and not getting a lot of penalties.
