Fantasy Football 2015 Profile: QB Ryan Fitzpatrick

When it comes to Fantasy Football 2015, your quarterback situation will more than likely be what makes your fantasy team a contender or pretender. The reality of the situation is when it comes to quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, most fantasy owners tend to stay far away from even considering taking him for their fantasy football team. One can’t really blame the mentality when it comes to Fitzpatrick since well, he’s never really enjoyed any major success on any team he’s been a starter on.

So far in his career, which has spanned about a decade now, Fitzpatrick has totaled 19,273 passing yards for 123 touchdowns, 101 interceptions and an overall quarterback rating of 79.5. He’s incredibly smart but not all that consistent in the grand scheme of things.

He’s played on six different teams including the New York Jets as he’s a journeyman that hasn’t found a whole lot of success but can handle being a starter thanks to all his veteran experience.

Thanks to the incident that sidelined quarterback Geno Smith for a good chunk of the regular season, Fitzpatrick has stepped up and taken over starting duties with hopes of getting the job done.

During preseason football, Fitzpatrick committed no turnovers, looked efficient and was able to run the new spread offense of the Jets. This new offense installed by new offensive coordinator Chan Gailey looks to be able to keep those chains moving thanks to a solid receiving corps, a good rushing attack and a decent offensive line to keep it all together.

With all that said, should fantasy owners even consider drafting Fitzpatrick in hopes that somehow he turns into a touchdown throwing machine? Don’t count on it since even though the Jets plan to use a short passing attack combined with their potent ground game, the Jets will more than likely not air it out deep much in 2015.

Expect the Jets’ offense to be led primarily by running backs Chris Ivory, Bilal Powell and Zac Stacy. While Fitzpatrick will get a decent amount of yards per game, the Jets are counting on their newly revamped defense and ground game to win plenty of football games this upcoming season.

With plenty of other quarterbacks out there, fantasy owners should actually stay far away from Fitzpatrick and avoid putting him into starting lineups anytime soon. He won’t do much on a consistent basis and would be lucky to have a game or two where he throws for more than a touchdown.

Overall, fantasy owners should look elsewhere for a QB2 since if anything, the Jets will be a contender thanks to their stout defense and ground game, not because of Fitzpatrick’s arm. His fantasy value is pretty low compared to how the Jets plan to attack opposing defenses in 2015.
