New York Jets: Todd Bowles discusses Family Night
Head coach Todd Bowles of the New York Jets certainly had a blast during “Family Night” held at Hofstra that saw over 11,000 fans in attendance. The team practice that was held that night was a fun event not just for fans but also the players to put up a solid practice and work towards correcting some of the kinks across the team. Clearly, penalties have been the hot topic of conversation as Bowles decided to make sure the referees that were watching everything during practice called everything and anything to ensure the Jets clean up those crucial mistakes.
Thanks to the Media Relations Department of the Jets, here is what Bowles had to say about his night at Hofstra, team injuries and an update on Muhammad Wilkerson. Enjoy!

On Muhammad Wilkerson…
He’s feeling a lot better, he was moving pretty good. So, we’ll bring him along slowly, but he’ll practice this week and pending any setbacks he’ll play this weekend.
On if Wilkerson is in shape…
He’s in good condition, but football-wise, he’s going to have to play his way back into shape. He’s going to have to get some reps.
On Lorenzo Mauldin…
They said he had a knee injury. I’m going to go inside and see how bad or how good it is.
On how Mauldin’s injury occurred…
I don’t know, I was down on the other end at the time. They just told me that he limped inside and he went in on his own. So, I’ll see when I go in.
On injury update for Shaq Evans…
He has a back sprain. He hyperextended it. So, he’s day-to-day or week-to-week.
On Family Night at Hofstra…
I think it’s great for the fans because that’s where they started right here. It’s been awhile since they’ve been back here and they left this place, so they’ve got a lot of loyal fans that came out here to see these guys and we really appreciate it.
On if he would prefer less preseason games or if he prefers the status quo…
You have to get ready. If there are fewer preseason games, you don’t get to see young guys and you don’t get to evaluate and the older guys don’t play themselves into shape. (There are) some unfortunate things that go on but, we have to play the preseason games.

On how much he expects the starters to play in the next preseason game…
They’ll play at least the half, if not, open the third quarter, but at least the half.
On injury update for Jeremy Kerley…
Not yet, he’s still moving slow. He’s got to go through protocol right now. Right now, we don’t expect him.
On what he liked in tonight’s practice…
They played fast. I told the referees to call anything if the wind blows so we were trying to emphasize penalties. Some of it was exaggerated, but we have to get a point across for the penalties. We’ll take a look at the film and we’ll teach off that all week. They were moving around pretty good for just having a game a night and half ago.
On Jarvis Harrison’s performance against Atlanta and receiving more reps with the second team…
It was up and down. We’re trying to rest some of the older guys that play a little bit more. So, we’re trying to give Jarvis more reps.
On the team’s performance versus Atlanta after watching the tape…
We made too many mistakes. But, I thought we played fast, we played faster than we played against Detroit, but the mistakes have to get cleaned up. But, at least they played fast.
On if Wilkerson will play with the first team or reserves in the next preseason game…
He’ll get a little bit of both. I’d like to see him in the first half, play against some people. So, I’d like to put him in the first half and let him go if he’s ready to go.
