On his impression of Dee Milliner being back on the field after his injury…

It has nothing to do with my opinion. John Mellody, the trainer, is monitoring him and making sure he takes the right steps to get back out on the field and today was his first day. I think as a whole defense, everybody is excited to see Dee get out there.

On what he has tried to teach Milliner…

Just basically, being a mentor as much as I can. Whatever question he has to ask, I try to give him the best answer I can, whether it’s technique wise or off the field wise.

On if he senses an eagerness from Milliner…

Yes, I think he had a tough injury last year with the Achilles and at this point now, he’s trying to get back into things. I think this is the time, right now at training camp, for him to get back into the mix and dust those cobwebs off. He hasn’t played in a whole year. This is a great time for him to get back into the flow of things.

On what he has seen out of Geno Smith so far…

I haven’t really been focused on him. I think you can ask Geno, Coach Gailey, and those guys. At this point, I’m not really looking at that.

On what it’s been like to be out in front of the Jets fans…

It’s great. It’s great to be accepted back with open arms. I think the fans are just as excited for this year as we are. We made a lot offseason acquisitions. I just think they’re excited. Yelling, chanting, Geno is throwing balls and they’re excited and chanting for him. I think the energy this year for the fan base is very ecstatic and I think they’re just ready to see some great football being played.

On how he can go about helping Sheldon Richardson

Like I said the other day, it was devastating and it definitely was because he’s a key component for this defense. He’s probably one of the best if not the best defensive tackle in the league. It was a big hit for us. He apologized and we moved on. We moved on. I think as a whole, as a team we just have to be there for him and support him. I think that was it – just be there and back him up.
