New York Jets Quotes: Decker excited about team chemistry?

facebooktwitterreddit

When it comes to the New York Jets and wide receiver Eric Decker, it’s so far been a good relationship. Decker was the top wide receiver in last year’s free agency period as the Jets swooped in to acquire him with hopes of finally fixing their issues on offense. He delivered nicely in his first year with the Jets in which he totaled 962 receiving yards on 74 receptions for 5 touchdowns.

With training camp upon the Jets, optimism is in the air in that the Jets will finally be able to be contenders again. It won’t be easy but with the additions of Brandon Marshall and Devin Smith, Decker can easily go back to his No. 2 supporting role and once again thrive in the position.

We here at The Jet Press would like to thank the Media Relations team of the Jets who have sent us direct quotes from Decker as he prepares for training camp. Here is what he had to say:

On if he believes the offense will be more explosive…

I do, I definitely do. Throughout the offseason program we did a good job of installing the new offense. Everyone is feeling comfortable. We’ve still got a ways to go, obviously, but that’s what training camp is for, get bumps out of the way and define who we’re going to be and find out what we’re good at. We should have a good offensive showing.

On how much progress was made during OTA’s and minicamp…

I think that’s the biggest thing. I think the chemistry that we’ve created was a good starting point. This is the time for us that we spend a lot of hours in the facility to get to know one another on the field and off the field. It’ll be a stepping stone towards the right way, but I feel like we’re coming together for sure.

On what the last 24 hours have looked like…

A lot of different emotions. I think a lot of guys are excited, the anticipation that builds, the nerves of, “Here we go again.” It’s a new season, this is an opportunity to have a lot of success. For us, our mentality has to be one day at a time. We have a lot of work ahead as far as installing both the new offense and defense, and then carrying it to the field and eliminating mistakes, having kind of fluid practices. Again, I’m excited to see what we can do throughout the training camp.

On what it’s like to have wide receiver Brandon Marshall running routes with him…

It’s exciting. He’s obviously, a proven receiver in this league. He’s a 10-year vet that’s done a lot. You have to know where he’s at and that just opens the door for everyone on the field, myself included. Looking forward to more one-on-one match ups and however coach is going to disguise and put us in different places or whatever he has planned. Our job is to get open and catch the football, so that’s what we’re going to work on and the more weapons you can get on the field at one time, the harder it is for defenses. That’s what I’m excited to have.
