Joe Klecko: Does he belong in Pro Football Hall of Fame?

When the name Joe Klecko comes to mind, one can argue he’s had quite the impact on professional football in his 12-year career. Mostly known for his tenure on the New York Jets, Klecko was an instrumental part of those that were a part of the famous “New York Sack Exchange” defensive line. Considering he was the leader of this exceptional defensive line and his stats over that time consisted of 24.0 sacks with a tenacity to be a human tackling machine, does he truly belong in the Pro Football Hall of Fame?

Klecko is considered by many to be one of the best defensive players to ever play the game. He was successful at any position that was given to him as he’s the second player in NFL history (behind Frank Gifford) to be a Pro Bowl selection at three different positions. That’s right, he played defensive end, nose tackle and even defensive tackle effectively.

Even though Klecko has been nominated numerous times into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, he’s missed having his own bust in Canton for whatever reasons. Fellow players that played around his time knew he was an extraordinary athlete that made a name for himself with the Jets and that it’s taking way too long for him to be enshrined.

It’s even gotten to the point that diehard fans of Klecko and of the Jets have recently made an online petition to get him enshrined once and for all. In this petition, fans are urging the NFL Senior Committee to put Klecko into Canton since enough is enough.

At the time of this writing, over 1,200 people have signed the petition with more signatures surely coming. Klecko had one heck of a career and it’s outrageous that other players that don’t have half of his statistics got in while he hasn’t. He might not have ever won a Super Bowl but every game he was a part of he sure acted like it was the big one. His relentless aggression and ability to be a force to reckon with is more than enough for him to finally be in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
