As the tri-state area gets pounded by snow storm after snow storm, we could all use some Jets news and rumors to get us through the cold nights. Unfortunately, now that the General Manager, Head Coach and the rest of the coaching staff have been hired there is a lull in the NFL news cycle. The good news is that while NFL football is 26 Sundays away, the Combine starts in a week and the new league year is just around the corner.

Once we get to the Combine (starting February 17th in Indianapolis) then you’ll have draft news as the Jets have the 6th pick in the draft and a lot of holes to fill. The Jets are one of the teams that are a possibility for the quarterbacks at the top of the draft. They are also a destination for a team like Philadelphia or Cleveland to trade up for one of the quarterbacks so there should be plenty of rumors.

More from The Jet Press

The Jets need more than a quarterback so there should be intrigue each day with the Jets looking at wide receivers, cornerbacks, safeties and linebackers. Those athletes are among the ones that start to separate themselves at the Combine, unlike interior offensive and, to a lesser extent, interior defensive linemen. Each day the measurables and drills will be dissected and there will be mock drafts and rankings galore.

The other great thing about the Combine is that it brings together General Managers and agents. When you get those two parties together in the same place you start to get some deals done with extensions (like Muhammad Wilkerson and Damon Harrison) and re-signings. Also, the rumors begin to circulate about where the free agents are going to end up or if they will hit free agency at all.

After the Combine finishes the new league year is just around the corner on March 9th and away we go with free agency and the road to the draft. We just need to get through this last week or so before the frenzy begins and the 2015 New York Jets begin to take shape. I know I’m chomping at the bit already.
