Tomorrow afternoon is likely the last time we are going to see Rex Ryan on the Jets sidelines. It’s the final game of a wretched 2014 campaign, where at best, the Jets can end 4-12. They head to Miami tomorrow to take on the Dolphins, who enter the game 8-7, and the chance to end the season with a winning record. Even being outside of the playoffs, it’s a big one for the Dolphins, and the Jets would like nothing better than to play spoilers for their division rivals.

It’s typically a memorable event when these two teams face each other. Let’s look at the history between these two teams.

The Jets lead the overall series with a record of 50-46-1, but it hasn’t gone well lately. The Dolphins have come out on top in four out of their last six meetings. Last time they met in Miami, the Jets won it by the score of 20-7, to finish up the 2013 campaign at .500. Their last meeting took place just over three weeks ago in New Jersey, when the Dolphins won it by a 16-13 margin on Monday Night Football.

Let’s highlight some player stats.

Geno Smith played well in his only meeting against the Dolphins, in the aforementioned 2013 season ending battle. (Remember Michael Vick started the first meeting in 2014.) In that game, Geno passed for 190 yards and scored a touchdown on the ground, leading many to believe he was starting to turn the corner for the Jets. Let’s see how things go tomorrow.

Chris Ivory has been the leader of the AFC’s best rushing team. Ivory leads the Jets with 792 rushing yards, and needs only 42 tomorrow to match his career high of 833 yards, achieved with the Jets last season.

Ryan Tannehill has the chance tomorrow to join some rare company in Dolphins history. He needs just 214 yards through the air against the Jets in order to finish as the only other quarterback, besides Dan Marino, to pass for 4,000 yards in a season. With the way the Jets pass defense can play, this is certainly not out of the realm of possibility.

Tannehill has been accurate at home lately as well. In six out of his last eight in Miami, Tannehill has completed over 70% of his passes.

Another guy that plays well in the friendly confines of Miami, Florida is Cameron Wake. In his past 12 games at home, Wake has recorded 11.5 sacks, three forced fumbles and a fumble recovery.
