Merry Christmas Jets fans.
As we have said, even though the first round of the NFL draft is not officially finalized yet, the mock draft reports are beginning to surface from all over. Whomever is running the draft in 2015, we all hope that we will be given some belated Christmas/Hanukkah gifts by our Jets.
This is going to be a very key draft for the New York Jets. They have a lot of holes to fill. We have talked about them a lot, and will continue to do so. Let’s look at what some of the experts think.
Today we have not one, but two mock drafts, courtesy of CBSSports.com. We have a mock draft from two of their experts. The first is Dane Brugler.
So who does he have for the Jets in the first round of the 2015 draft?
Nov 22, 2014; Lincoln, NE, USA; Nebraska Cornhuskers defender
Randy Gregory(4) sacks Minnesota Golden Gophers quarterback
Mitch Leidner(7) in the first half at Memorial Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Bruce Thorson-USA TODAY Sports
Randy Gregory, DE, University of Nebraska
Change is coming to the Jets – how much change? We’ll soon find out. But regardless of the head coach or general manager, New York needs to add athleticism in its front seven. Gregory has shown terrific development since arriving at Nebraska as a JUCO transfer and his NFL ceiling projects him highly in this class.
You can read the entire mock by clicking here:
Randy Gregory is a solid player, no doubt. Take a look at anything that our guy Sean Lester Durham has written as of late to know that. All evidence points to the fact that Randy Gregory would make an immediate contribution to the Jets.
But I still just don’t see the Jets going front seven in the first round of the draft. Defensive end? If anything, the defensive line is a strength. With players like Amari Cooper and Brandon Scherff available in this scenario, there are certainly other ways the Jets can go with the draft.
Next, we have our second expert from the CBSSports website, Rob Rang. Who does he see the Jets choosing in the first round of the draft…….
Dec 6, 2014; Atlanta, GA, USA; Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback
Blake Sims(6) is pressured by Missouri Tigers defensive lineman
Shane Ray(56) in the first quarter of the 2014 SEC Championship at the Georgia Dome. Mandatory Credit: Jason Getz-USA TODAY Sports
Shane Ray, DE, Missouri
The Jets clearly need help on the offensive side of the ball, especially at quarterback, but if Mariota and Winston are off the board, whoever is running the front office at that point may have little option but to look elsewhere. Under Rex Ryan the Jets have developed a fierce front but lack a dominant edge rusher. Ray, the SEC’s leading sack artist, possesses the country’s most explosive burst off the ball.

Here you could put in the same commentary as on the previous page. I don’t see any way the Jets go with a defensive end in the first round of the draft in 2015. There are just too many other holes.
Agree?
