Bowl season is upon us and our looking into the top prospects the Jets should likely be scouting for their first round pick will continue through this glorious bowl week of course.  For the most part, the prospects I’ve noted for you haven’t changed all that much.  I’m still torn personally between wanting the Jets to do whatever it takes to get either Jameis Winston or Amari Cooper and this Bowl season will definitely help me in finalizing the decision.

Jameis Winston –

Jameis is the top QB prospect in my opinion, but there’s no doubt this season has been a struggle compared to his Heisman winning season last year.  He can do a lot to raise his stock during these playoffs.  Winston and the Florida State Seminoles find themselves matched up vs Marcus Mariota and the Oregon Ducks.  It’s a matchup of the previous two Heisman winning QBs.  It’s a matchup of the top two QB prospects and all eyes will be on them in this game.  Oregon is without their top CB All-American cornerback, Ifo Ekpre-Olomu after suffering a severe knee injury in practice.  The Jets probably will be drafting anywhere from the 5-6 range and Winston is definitely still an option for them, whether they trade up or if he slips.  Oregon plays a lot of zone and Winston excels vs zone secondaries.  We could see a matchup of the ages between these two QBs and I can’t wait.

The Rose Bowl (FSU vs Oregon )or Semi-Final will be 5pm EST on New Years day.

Marcus Mariota –

Mariota fresh off his Heisman win is looking to show whose the best QB prospect going into draft season and what better way to do that than to out duel another Heisman winning QB in Jameis Winston?  Marcus is projected to go in the top three and the Jets are likely gonna end up drafting anywhere in the 5-6 range.  If the Jets want Mariota they will likely have to trade up as I don’t really see him slipping outside of an abysmal performance during Bowl and pre-draft season.

Amari Cooper –

Amari Cooper has as good a chance at ended up a Jet as Jameis Winston.  For some strange reason, I see the Jets trading up to secure Amari Cooper.  I base that on nothing at all, oh, besides the fact that Jets GM John Idzik has been spotted at Cooper’s last two games.  Idzik COULD be following Bama safety Landon Collins around or Idzik could just be lost and not really sure where he is, but my money is on him actively and personally scouting the best WR in college football this season.  Bama will find themselves up against Ohio State in the Semifinal.  Ohio State has allowed some big games from opposing WRs this season.  Week 4, some dude named Chris Moore from Kent State went off on them for three catches, 221 yards and three TDs.  We may see Cooper eat.

Brandon Scherff –

Your last chance to watch Brandon “The Mountain” Scherff will be January 2nd when his Iowa team meets the Tennessee Vols in the Iowa TaxSlayer Bowl. Scherff has great hand placement and wonderful upper body strength.  His good knee bend and surprising quickness make Scherff a legit asset in the running game.  He controls his weight and size well and pairs it with outstanding control of his momentum.  He’s a great pass blocker and is very much worth a top 10 selection.  The Jets offensive line woes have gotten much worse as the season has progressed and I would draft Scherff in the top 10 without much thought about it.

Randy Gregory –

Gregory is the top pass rushing DE in the draft for me.  It’s close considering how much I like Missouri DE Shane Ray, but Gregory simply has that burst that separates him in my opinion.  He has what the Jets have missed off the edges for quite some time now.  At 6’6 245, Gregory has ideal size and weight to come in a produce as a 3-4 OLB. He’s active around the ball and fights until he gets there. He has a wonderful burst off the edges and uses his length effectively.  Your last chance to see Gregory is Saturday December 27th vs USC in the Holiday bowl.

The Holiday Bowl ( Nebraska vs USC ) will be 8:00 pm on December 27th
