I have been a big fan of coach Rex Ryan since the moment he arrived on the scene in New York. When he arrived, he brought back a sense of sswagger to the New York Jets. He made, “Here come the Jets”, a phrase worth taking pride in hearing. For most of his six-year tenure, the Jets have been a tough team to tangle with, and a lot of thanks should be focused on Rex Ryan for teaching the team to be tough. If he is let go, Ryan will find success with whatever team he ends up with.
But Rex Ryan deserves to go. Frankly, as Craig Hoffman noted yesterday, Rex Ryan deserves to go immediately. The situation has gotten out of hand, and coach Ryan deserves some of the blame.
Monday night, Ryan deserves a lot of the blame, and what he should blamed for would send any coach packing.
For five plus years, you could count on Rex Ryan putting the Jets in the best position to win. He played to his strength which was a good defense, and a strong, balanced offensive attack. With a few exceptions , the Jets have been able to keep themselves in games, and provide the Jets fans with a decent product to feel hope in. However, this time was different, and it is reason for the coach to be gone.
He ran the ball almost 50 times against the Dolphins, yet passed the ball 13 times. Let’s be fair, it did work during the first half, to the tune of over 200 yards on the ground. The Jets were firing on all cylinders in the run game, beating the Dolphins at the line of scrimmage. But all of a sudden, the Dolphins made adjustments. In this day and age, running the football like that just doesn’t work. You have to be able to throw the football. As the Dolphins adjusted, there was more and more room to make throws, and the Jets made none. The current NFL doesn’t work that way. You have to throw the football. Rex Ryan didn’t even try.
Why would coach Ryan do it this way? For a guy that professes to be all about the Jets, why wouldn’t he do so here? We will never know, but the evidence in that game shows that there may be an alternative motive for doing it. Was he trying to stick it to Idzik? Again, we don’t know. But what we do know is Rex didn’t give us the best chance to win. Whatever the reason, once that happens, the coach no longer belongs there. It’s time to go.
I love Rex Ryan., but he needs to go. Monday night made it clear, something has to give in this situation.
