New York Jets Week 8: More Than Just A Loss

Week 8 brought another disaster to the MetLife Stadium! Two Jets QB’s combined for four interceptions, and two fumbles!! It was an embarrassment against an average Buffalo Bills squad, who if they had a better offense would have racked up even more points. This was not just a loss, it was verification that this organization is totally dysfunctional! It enforced everything much of the fan base has been saying all year, this team lacks talent and is poorly coached. This game was a condemnation of the organization from the top to the bottom and I’ll tell you why!

Let’s start at the top! Our owner Woody Johnson!! Johnson has inflicted Jest fans with ineptitude at the GM position for years now!! Mike Tannenbaum tortured the fan base with lackluster talent and ridiculous contracts for six seasons before ownership woke up and fired him! Now we have had two full off seasons of John Idzik!! The results have been disastrous, the team is now 1-7 with a roster void of much NFL talent!! I see no other way to see it, ownership has failed the Jets fan base, it hass failed to provide adequate leadership and fielded a poor product for its consumers. Wake up Woody!!!

This game made it crystal clear what type of talent John Idzik has brought to this team! His only draft pick worth a grain of salt is Sheldon Richardson, who once again proved himself as a star on this team on Sunday. He brought us two QB’s in two seasons, and as we saw on Sunday, both are turnover machines!! He’s brought us multitudes of wide receivers, none of which can get open and catch a football. With the exception of Eric Decker in free agency, he’s failed to find much talent there either. Chris Johnson has proven he’s not the running back he once was, nor the player Idzik told the fan base he would be!! Again, I just don’t see any other way to see this one, John Idzik has failed to improve a roster two years running, and has fielded a poor excuse for a NFL franchise!!

Next up, and not without blame is our illustrious Head Coach Rex Ryan. Rex has now had the reins of the Jets for six seasons, and hasn’t been able to win much of anything since 2010. His team is now 1-7, and has been absent from the playoffs for likely four consecutive seasons. His meltdowns along the sidelines two weeks running have shown he’s frustrated and without answers. The poor coaching of this team gets more evident with each passing week! The Jets had ten days rest this week, they were pretty healthy going into the campaign and should have been prepared for the Bills!

More from Jets News

It was obvious from the start they weren’t! The offensive line played poorly, the secondary once again gave up big plays, the receiving corps dropped footballs and the QB play was just pathetic!! The Jets were favored in Sunday’s game, but unfortunately for those attending the game, they showed up unprepared and undisciplined. Six turnovers and ten penalties!! The Jets coaching staff failed their team on Sunday, and that ultimately falls on Rex Ryan. This team is poorly coached across the board with the exception of the defensive front’s coach Karl Dunbar. Rex hired this group, so Rex is to blame, not many other ways to see this one either!!

Finally, and with as much blame as anyone, our offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg. I was a huge Morhinweg fan when he was in Philadelphia, his West Coast style was both innovative and explosive. I applauded his signing with the Jets, and thought we had finally found the guy that could fix the offensive woes. I defended him last season, as critics began to attack his game plans. I felt strapped with a rookie signal caller and a lack of weapons, Mornhinweg was unfairly criticized.

This year I must admit I was wrong. Watching this team week after week I’m often left wondering what the offensive game plan was, or as in San Diego and again this week, I wonder if there even was one! Mornhinweg had ten days to prepare his team for a home game against a divisional opponent and provided nothing in the form of a comprehensive game plan. His QB’s played terribly and his offensive line failed to execute!! Morhinweg may have little talent to work with, but this team is very poorly coached offensively!

Jets fans should be outraged at this past Sunday’s game! I know I am!! This wasn’t simply a loss, this turned out to be a travesty for the Jets organization and its fanbase! This is a sub par football team, with glaring holes, and lacking in discipline, and that, my friends, falls on ownership, the front office and the coaching staff!!  The fix needs to start at the top, radical changes need to be made, and unfortunately for the fans, its likely to take several years. Once again it would appear we are on the doorstep of mediocrity and something needs to be done to return this great franchise around and return it to respectability in the NFL!!

That’s how I see the loss on Sunday. That’s how I see this franchise and its top leadership! Now I want to hear what you have to say. Leave me a comment. Let’s discuss this one!
