The photo above tells the story of the fiasco that Jets fans witnessed in Sunday’s humiliating loss to the San Diego Chargers. The Jets team failed to produce anything resembling a cohesive unit on offense or defense on Sunday! It appeared the coaching staff had no game plan at all, and the players failed to execute what ever poor plan was in place! To put it mildly the Jets stunk up the place!
The aftermath of the game hasn’t been pretty either, with reports of Geno Smith and others missing a team meeting on Saturday night and line backer Demario Davis calling the team out for not practicing hard enough. All this may have Jets fans ready to throw their hands up in the air, but don’t sweat it folks, this loss was not the team’s fault and I’ll tell you why!!

Geno Smith is not to blame for his terrible performance in San Diego. He was replaced in the second half by the guy everyone has been chanting for in Michael Vick. Vick’s terrible lack of production proved it wasn’t Smith’s fault! It wasn’t Michael Vick’s fault either! These two signal callers didn’t stand a chance! This situation was caused by the heat! At game time it was approaching one hundred degrees on the field and the heat must have interfered with their headsets making play calling impossible!! The heat was just too much on these East Coast guys, football isn’t played in 100 degree temperatures! I blame the heat not the quarterbacks!!
The offensive line is taking a lot of flack in the media this week for their poor performance as well. Seriously guys you can’t possibly blame them for the porous condition they allowed along the line! You can’t blame them for the penalties, or their failure to pick up the blitzes thrown at them!! You can’t blame Brian Winters for playing like a turn style, nor can you blame D’Brickashaw Ferguson for getting beaten badly on almost every play!
You can’t blame them!! It was the heat!! These guys are offensive linemen with years of experience! They surely couldn’t be expected to play anything like a cohesive unit in that kind of heat!! No it has nothing to do with the penalties, or the poor play, or even the fact that Winters can’t man the position or that our line is aging and slowing down, it was the heat!!

Oh and the defensive line play! These poor guys up front are taking fire from the media as well! They are being blamed for not showing up in the run game, and allowing a virtually unknown rookie to rack up over a hundred yards on the ground. They are even being blamed for not getting to the quarterback often enough in this one!! Of course this is all unfair, they did sack Rivers several times, in fact they lead the league in sacks! The problem once again was the heat!! These guys are young up front, and surely no one could expect them to be in shape to perform in these horrid conditions!! You can’t blame them for being worn out and ineffective by half time!! It’s just not fair!! It was the heat!!
Another group is the Jets linebacking corps! The criticism here is far too unfair! It wasn’t their fault that they couldn’t play in space, that they were caught in mismatches against wide receivers or tight ends. It surely wasn’t their fault that the tackling was less than adequate. Of course it wasn’t their fault when their blitzes were picked up and the secondary got torched, not at all!! I’m here to reassure you Jets fans, it was the heat!!

Our poor secondary guys, must be falling into a mass depression together with all the criticism they have been receiving for the results of this game! These poor guys are being blamed for most of the failure on Sunday, they are being blamed for allowing Philip Rivers to throw for 288 yards and three touchdowns. I mean they did get Dee Milliner back on the field and Philip Adams did record their first interception of the year! No, these guys can’t be blamed for Rivers production, nor the huge chunks they gave up through out the game. They can’t possibly be tormented by the accusers that claim they can’t cover a tight end to save their lives!! No my friends, don’t despair, ultimately it was the heat!!

Finally, the most unfair blame that is being thrown around Jet Nation this week, has to be that Rex Ryan and his coaching staff failed to properly implement a game plan to beat the Chargers!! These guys were on the side line all day, sweating and baking in 100 degree sunshine!! Ryan went as far as throwing his cold Gatorade cup on the ground in support of his over heated team!

No way was he going to allow his guys to be overheated, while he drank cool refreshing Gatorade!! Many say Rex made the wrong move replacing Geno Smith for Michael Vick, when it was obvious it wasn’t Smith’s fault the line failed to protect him! You have to excuse his decisions, the heat was radiating through his pink adorned Jets cap! It wasn’t his fault that his defense fell apart, and he had no adjustments at hand to stop the bleeding, it was the heat! Everyone knows it’s hard to think clearly when you are that hot!!
The same goes for Marty Morhinweg’s invisible game plan! Surely you couldn’t expect him to use his tight ends against a banged up linebacking corp for the Chargers! Nor to exploit that same weakness, by running the ball down their throats! He couldn’t have possibly game planned against a defense that has struggled to stop teams from running on them! Hell no!! Don’t blame Marty!! It was hot on the West Coast on Sunday!!
The bright spot of Sunday’s fiasco is that the Jets need not play in that kind of heat again this season! They return to the friendly confines of Met Life stadium to play in more football friendly weather against the Denver Broncos. The Jets will be just fine. Relax Jet fans! The temperatures will be more fall like, and being so, the Jets shouldn’t have any problem at all facing Peyton Manning and the high-powered Bronco offense! Rex Ryan will have his guys ready!! Marty Mornhinweg will have his guys ready!
Players won’t be confused by the time difference and miss meetings this week! They will practice hard since being called out for their habits by a fellow teammate! Geno Smith and company will beat the Broncos! How do I know? That’s easy…it won’t be 100 degrees!!
