Here are some quotes following today’s Jets loss against the Lions. We start with quarterback Geno Smith on whether the game was scaled down because Marty Mornhinweg doesn’t trust him:

When it comes to Marty, Marty’s remarks, I think it is a matter of semantics. I think that Marty understands that no matter what he calls, because we prepare all week, we map out the scenarios. We go over, over, and over it again, so I am ready for it. It’s not like it is something that we aren’t preparing ourselves for during the week. The key thing is that we have to execute better as players, all of us. And it starts with me directly, so when it comes to that, scoring in the red zone or anywhere, the fact of the matter is that we haven’t executed as well as we can.

Geno on his level of frustration:

As one of the leaders of this team, a leader on offense, frustration is not even important right now. The important thing is that I get my guys rallied up and get them ready to go next week because next week is the most important game for us. We can’t dwell on this. We have had three tough weeks. Three games in which we have had multiple opportunities to come away with victories, yet we haven’t done so. Whatever it is, I have to make sure I right the ship and get this thing going.

Here is running back Chris Ivory on why things seemed to fall apart after a wonderful first drive for the Jets:

We just didn’t execute. There’s a lot that plays into the game. There’s not just one thing that causes a team to lose. There’s a lot of different things that you can go and look at. So, you can’t just look for one thing and say, “Oh, this is it. This is it.” There’s just multiple things that happen within the game. You just have to be the team with the least mistakes.

Jets linebacker Demario Davis on what the team needs to do in order to get better:

The effort on Sundays is unquestionable. That’s the thing you always want to judge on, because if the effort is there, a lot of times the results will be there. I can’t question the effort on Sundays and during the week. When it counts, we want to win games. It doesn’t matter for us if the game is won on four separate plays, we need to put more effort in during the game. It’s not just in practice, but putting more time in the film room (and) putting more time on the technique. We’ve got young guys, so guys have to find a way to make themselves individually better. If it’s mental, you’ve got to spend way more time in the film room. If its physical, you’ve got to stay out there with your coaches and work on technique to be the best player you can be. If everyone matches that potential on Sundays, we’ll find a way to win.
