1 major advantage Jets offense has over every AFC team in 2026

The New York Jets, in all likelihood, will not be a very good team in the 2026 season. Even a resurgent Geno Smith may not be enough to get this team above .500, and the coaching staff is still a question mark. However, the Jets are by no means a completely lost cause.

Head coach Aaron Glenn and general manager Darren Mougey have built an offense that has the ability to at least be average, which would be mana from heaven for Jets fans.

This Jets offense can claim at least one victory when compared directly against every team in the AFC. For this exercise, each AFC team can only be used once, and they will be sorted into the category in which they have the greatest gulf between them and the Jets.

What positions are the New York Jets better at than their AFC peers?

Quarterback: Cleveland Browns, Tennessee Titans

The Jets very rarely get to say they have a quarterback advantage over their opponent. Ward may be better than Smith as soon as this season, but the immensely talented top pick needs to work on some accuracy issues before he reaches his potential. Be it Deshaun Watson or Shedeur Sanders, Cleveland is a complete mess under center.

Running Back: Cincinnati Bengals, Jacksonville Jaguars, New England Patriots

Breece Hall is one of the three best running backs in the AFC, but his quality really shines compared to these teams. Even the most devoted Bengals fans would put Hall over Chase Brown. TreVeyon Henderson hasn't quite put Rhamondre Stevenson to bed yet, and Jacksonville losing Travis Etienne has forced them into a Bhayshul Tuten-led committee.

No. 1 Wide Receiver: Dolphins, Raiders, Colts, Chiefs

Garrett Wilson, like Hall, tops most of the receivers in the AFC. Miami and Las Vegas don't have anyone who can hold a candle to him, and neither Indianapolis nor Kansas City can claim that either Alec Pierce or Rashee Rice is better than him.

Wide Receiver Depth: Buffalo Bills, Pittsburgh Steelers

Pittsburgh has DK Metcalf and Michael Pittman Jr., but if rookie Germie Bernard doesn't thrive, things could get scary for Aaron Rodgers. DJ Moore and Khalil Shakir can't mask Buffalo's thin depth chart. With Omar Cooper Jr., training camp star Isaiah Williams, and the developing Adonai Mitchell, the Jets finally have a quality wide receiver room outside of Wilson.

Tight End: Broncos

The Jets have invested a top-50 pick in consecutive years on tight ends, so they should rank ahead of at least one team. With the Evan Engram contract looking like a huge flop and the lack of NFL Draft capital spent on tight ends, Denver is behind New York fairly firmly.

Offensive Line: Ravens, Chargers, Texans

The offensive line may be the strength of this Jets team, and even some contenders can't claim to be as robust as New York in this area. The Ravens are pulling the hot dog vendor out of the stands to play center; the Chargers' oft-injured line consists of a bunch of mid-round rookies, and the Texans, while better, are a tick below what the Jets have.
