It will be a reunion of sorts come tomorrow night in New England. Yes, the Jets have faced Darrelle Revis before, last year when he played with Tampa Bay. The Jets saw him on opening day. But, the Jets haven’t seen him in the uniform of the other side, the hated side. Tomorrow night, the Jets take on the Patriots for the first time with Revis looking across the line through his silver Patriots’ helmet.

Coach Ryan talked about his former cornerback when meeting with the media yesterday:

On what it is like seeing Darrelle Revis in a Patriots uniform… A little sick to my stomach (joking). I thought it was really weird last year when you saw him opening day, but I don’t know how I will react when I see him over there. That one felt kind of funny, but we will see.

On if the Revis rule is in effect… Of course (joking). No, we will see. Like anybody else, not too many are going in that direction.

On if he has a greater appreciation for Revis given the Jets current situation at cornerback… No. I obviously had a great deal of appreciation when I had him. I think we did something with him that really hadn’t been done in the NFL, putting your corner on the number one receiver. So I don’t know really how many times that really was done. A lot of times you put your corner on their second receiver, and then roll your coverage, but we did just the opposite. But I had a great appreciation for him back then.

On if he views him as the number one corner in the league… Again, if I say something then I am going to get ripped. Richard Sherman is going to attack me or something (joking). I haven’t seen everybody, but of the ones I see, yeah I would think so.

On what makes Revis so dangerous right now… Well they are matching him, a lot of times, with the number one receivers and things like that, so he (Bill Belichick) is doing a lot of things with him.

On how much losing Revis caused him to change what he does schematically… Well when we lost him, the one year when he got hurt like the second week of the season or something like that or the third, might have been the third game. Yes, you go back and you look at what you have and then you try to adjust. That is what you do.

On if he wanted Revis back in the offseason when he was a free agent… Oh man, I’m not going to go there. Let’s focus on the team right in front of us and recognize that the guy is an excellent player and plays on someone else’s team and that’s just the way it is.

On if he has noticed if the Patriots are using Revis more similar to the way he was used with the Jets Again, I saw where they are matching him maybe a little more than they did at the beginning of the year.

Clearly the respect is still felt from coach to player. But that doesn’t change the fact that these two teams hate each other. I am sure Revis will have a nice meetup with Rex before the game, and that will be it. Game on.
