It's been a chaotic week for the NY Jets. From the Robert Saleh firing to the Davante Adams trade to everything happening with Haason Reddick, the last seven days have been a whirlwind at Florham Park.
Jets owner Woody Johnson, the man responsible for much of said chaos, spoke to reporters on Tuesday following his team's acquisition of Adams. Say what you want about Johnson — the man is committed to doing whatever it takes to win.
Unfortunately, Johnson doesn't always have the best judgement. This isn't to say that the moves over the last week have been the wrong ones, but Johnson didn't exactly offer up a good quote when asked about his recent decision-making.
Johnson informed reporters on Tuesday that "thinking is overrated." That quote may be taken a little out of context (the full context can be seen below), but it certainly doesn't inspire confidence to a Jets fan base that is desperate for positive results.
"You know, thinking is overrated. You have to look forward. You have to look forward to the games we're gonna play each and every week and try to win all of them. And that's basic stuff, right?"Woody Johnson
Fans are begging for Woody Johnson's NY Jets to finally win some games
Johnson's quote does make some sense despite the memeable nature of it. He's doing his best to say the Jets can't dwell on past results and that they must move forward despite their three-game losing streak.
Johnson has taken center stage over the last week in Florham Park. It was his decision to shockingly fire Saleh after a 2-3 start to the season. He's been outspoken in his recruitment of Reddick to return. He's fielding questions again following the Adams trade.
It's not typically encouraging when an NFL owner becomes the focal point of the organization, but Johnson deserves some credit too. He's opening up his wallet and allowing the Jets to be aggressive as they attempt to capitalize on the Aaron Rodgers Super Bowl window. It's hard to fault him for that.
Still, that doesn't help ease the minds of Jets fans who are pleading for their team to make the playoffs for the first time in 14 years. And you'd better believe Johnson's "thinking is overrated" quote is going to come back to bite the team if they fail to accomplish that goal.
