The New York Jets have been looking for a solution to their quarterback woes for a long time. They haven't had a bona fide franchise guy since the days of Joe Willie Namath.
That remains true in the year 2026, and the current plan is to roll out Geno Smith as the bridge starter for one season before the Jets dip their toe in the 2027 quarterback class.
But Smith was horrendous for the Las Vegas Raiders last year, and there is the possibility he continues to decline in New York. With Aaron Glenn needing to field a competitor in 2026 to keep his job, where else could he turn in case of an emergency?
Andrew Luck floated as Jets option in crazy comeback idea
NFL.com put together a list of the craziest player comebacks the league could see in 2026, and Jeremy Bergman picked former No. 1 overall pick Andrew Luck, unretiring and joining up with the Jets and his former head coach Frank Reich.
"Currently the general manager of Stanford football, Luck is just 36 years old, younger than three starting QBs in the NFL in 2026 (Aaron Rodgers, Matthew Stafford, Kirk Cousins). Luck is set up pretty nice now that he's no longer getting walloped by pass rushers, but if he ever wished to live to his generational potential, there's still time. Though his old gig is currently occupied by Danny Dimes, Luck can reunite with former Colts boss Frank Reich in New York as a Geno Smith escape hatch and potential bridge."Jeremy Bergman
Ever since Luck shockingly retired during the 2019 preseason, there have been rumors and reports of the Indianapolis Colts and other teams trying to lure the four-time Pro Bowler back to the league.
If it hasn't happened yet, it likely never will. But it's still fun to think about an alternate universe where Luck dusts off his football cleats and suits back up for his former head coach.
Even at 36 years old, Luck would be the most talented quarterback to play for the Jets since Namath. In his final season of football, he threw for 4,593 passing yards, tossed 39 touchdowns to 15 interceptions, and won 10 games.
That would be a record-shattering season by any Jets quarterback in team history, and maybe even give New York a short-term quarterback option to build around.
As previously mentioned, the chances of Luck coming out of retirement are slim to none. But it's fun to think about.
