T'Vondre Sweat & Jarvis Brownlee exact sweet revenge in Jets Week 1 win

The New York Jets season opener against the Tennessee Titans had a lot of narratives going into it. Yes, the Jets got revenge on their old head coach, Robert Saleh, but there were two players with New York who were deemed expendable by Titans general manager Mike Borgonzi, considering the fact that he traded them within the last calendar year.

Jarvis Brownlee Jr., the Jets' starting nickel cornerback, was dealt to New York in September 2025. Darren Mougey flipped Tennessee a 2026 sixth-round pick in exchange for Brownlee and a 2026 seventh-round pick. The former Louisville standout instantly became a vocal leader for the Jets upon arrival.

This past offseason, the Titans dealt defensive tackle T'Vondre Sweat to the Jets in exchange for former first-round edge rusher Jermaine Johnson. Sweat, despite being a recent second-round draft pick with loads of potential, was not deemed a fit for the program Saleh is building in Tennessee.

Both players clearly remembered the fact that neither Borgonzi, or in Sweat's case, Saleh and Borgonzi, were not interested in their services, and it showed when both players took the field on Sunday.

As shown in the above video, both Sweat and Brownlee watched intently as the Titans players took the field ahead of their regular-season opener. They paced back and forth, eyeing up their former teammates and coaches who they were about to play against.

It was obviously personal for both ex-Titans, considering Tennessee felt comfortable moving on from both players. But it was Sweat and Brownlee who would end up getting the last laugh.

Brownlee in particular had himself a standout day against his former team. The Jet Press's Justin Fried shared the cornerback's Pro Football Focus statistics that graded him as the all-around best player on the Jets' defense on Sunday.

Brownlee recorded an overall grade of 82.4, the highest of any Jets defender, and also added a 78.4 run defense grade and an 82.0 coverage grade. He made four tackles, recorded two run stops, and only allowed two catches for eight yards in coverage.

Sweat didn't have as productive a day, according to PFF, recording a grade of only 52.0. But that could be chalked up to the fact that he only played 15 snaps as part of the Jets' larger defensive line rotation. Brownlee was out there practically all day, except when he exited the game for a short period to get an injury checked out.

Regardless, he got his revenge as well, and similar to Brownlee, he made sure to let that fact known on social media.

Sunday's opening victory was sweet enough for the Jets fans who wanted to get one over on their former head coach. That victory is even sweeter for these two young defenders who wanted to stick it to the team that decided they weren't good enough.
