New York Jets fans are well aware of what they have on their hands in wide receiver Garrett Wilson. He's the team's biggest star and deserves to be treated as such. Sometimes, it feels like the team forgets the caliber of player their former first-round draft pick is.

In Week 4 against the Chicago Bears, the Jets offense had one of its worst outings in recent memory. They couldn't move the ball and were run off the field, thanks in large part to being unable to sustain drives. It should come as no surprise that Wilson only caught three passes for 27 yards.

This past Sunday, against the Cleveland Browns, the Jets made a point of getting Wilson involved early and often. On their opening offensive possession, Wilson hauled in three catches for 70 yards and scored the opening touchdown. He finished the day with seven receptions for 107 yards.

It honestly could've been even more if the Jets hadn't gone away from him in the first half. Regardless, the offense is a different product when the team is and isn't incorporating its best player, and even veteran Tim Patrick is aware of that fact.

Tim Patrick calls Garrett Wilson the New York Jets' 'best offensive player'

Speaking with reporters following the Jets' Week 5 victory against the Browns, Patrick sang the praises of Wilson for his 100-yard outing despite the inclement weather, and said what every Jets fan already knew about their star pass catcher.

"Having a front row seat to it, he's even better than I thought," Patrick said via The Athletic's Zack Rosenblatt. "The way he caught the ball in the rain yesterday, I don't think people understand how hard that is. We go as far as Garrett goes. He's our best offensive player."

It's cool to see a Jets player come out and publicly say this. The team has a habit of underutilizing him, particularly in losing efforts, and it's hard not to notice the difference in how the offense performs when Wilson is and isn't as involved.

So far through 2026, Wilson has hauled in 31 receptions for 374 yards and three touchdowns, and still, that feels like it's not enough. He should be receiving double-digit targets in every game, and he's only gotten that in two of the Jets' first five games.

As Patrick said, Wilson is the Jets' best offensive player, and they need to continue utilizing him like it.
