In the latest episode of The Jet Press Podcast, Justin Fried and Mike Luciano discuss the New York Jets benching Justin Fields for Tyrod Taylor, Brady Cook's future, Kyler Murray, and other potential veteran quarterback targets for the Jets in 2026.
The show started with a discussion about the Jets' decision to bench Justin Fields in favor of Tyrod Taylor. Both Justin and Mike agreed that benching Fields was the correct decision, while expressing hesitancy that Taylor will be the savior of the offense.
Taylor should at least allow the Jets to evaluate some of the young playmakers in their offense, including the likes of Adonai Mitchell, John Metchie, Arian Smith, and Mason Taylor. Speaking of evaluation, what about Brady Cook?
Many Jets fans have been pushing for the team to start Cook as early as this week against the Baltimore Ravens, and while we may see him at some point this season, Justin and Mike explained why there's no justification to start him anytime soon. It wouldn't be best for either Cook or the Jets.
Next up was the long-awaited Kyler Murray conversation. Justin and Mike discussed whether Murray was a serious candidate to be the Jets' quarterback in 2026, the financial ramifications of acquiring him, what that would mean for the draft, and much more.
How much would it cost to trade for Murray? How many years would the Jets be locked into his contract? Would Murray be a schematic fit for Tanner Engstrand's offense? Could they still draft a quarterback in 2026 or 2027? All of that was discussed in great detail.
Justin and Mike also took a look at a host of other potential veteran quarterback targets for the Jets, including trade candidates like Mac Jones, Jacoby Brissett, and Davis Mills, as well as free-agent targets like Marcus Mariota, Russell Wilson, or Jimmy Garoppolo.
Finally, we broke down the Jets' upcoming Week 12 game against the Baltimore Ravens this Sunday. Both Justin and Mike agreed the Jets don't have much of a chance against Lamar Jackson, Derrick Henry, and the Ravens, but what were our final score predictions?
