In the latest episode of The Jet Press Podcast, Justin Fried and Mike Luciano discuss NY Jets trade candidates, Rex Ryan's head coach candidacy, the latest on Greg Zuerlein and the kicker situation, and the upcoming Week 9 game against the Houston Texans.

The show started with a brief conversation about the Jets' kicker situation after Justin tried some of Aaron Rodgers' magical cayenne pepper and water potion. The Jets signed Riley Patterson and Spencer Shrader to their practice squad on Wednesday while placing Greg Zuerlein on the injured reserve with a mysterious knee injury.

One of Patterson or Shrader will kick for the Jets on Thursday night against the Texans. As for Zuerlein, the Jets have opted against releasing the veteran kicker, instead seemingly concocting an injury to place him on IR. Why? The answer (as per usual) likely comes down to finances.

The conversation then shifted to a discussion about Rex Ryan. Ryan is openly campaigning for an opportunity to be the Jets' new head coach in 2025. Should the Jets seriously consider bringing Ryan back? If not Rex, what other coaches make sense for the Jets?

The NFL trade deadline is less than a week away, and while the Jets have been active buyers to this point, there are a few players on their roster they could look to trade away before next Tuesday's deadline passes.

The most obvious trade candidate is Mike Williams, who has been the subject of various trade rumors since the team acquired Davante Adams earlier this month. Which other Jets players could be traded?

Justin and Mike discussed how the likes of D.J. Reed and Haason Reddick could also be intriguing trade chips as we approach next week's deadline. What would their values be at this stage, however?

Finally, Justin and Mike broke down the Jets' upcoming Thursday Night Football matchup with the Texans this week. The Texans can be seen as the "Bizarro" version of the Jets, seeing as the two organizations were constructed in similar ways. Unfortunately, only one of the teams found success.
