In the latest episode of The Jet Press Podcast, Justin Fried and Mike Luciano discuss Justin Fields' struggles in New York Jets training camp, Allen Lazard's uncertain future, the state of the offensive line, and preview the Jets' preseason opener this Saturday against the Green Bay Packers.
The show started with a lengthy discussion about Fields' struggles thus far in training camp. The former first-round pick has reportedly completed under 35% of his passes over his last three practices, including a pair of interceptions in Tuesday's outing.
How much concern should Jets fans have about Fields and the passing game in general? Is it time to panic? How much should Fields play in the preseason? All of that was discussed at length.
The conversation then shifted to Allen Lazard and his uncertain future in New York. Once seen as the presumed WR2 entering the spring, Lazard finds himself firmly on the roster bubble ahead of Saturday's preseason opener. Is Lazard a legitimate roster cut candidate?
There was also plenty to discuss regarding the Jets' offensive line, notably the performance of 2024 first-round pick Olu Fashanu to this point. Fashanu is looking like one of the best players at Jets camp this summer and could be primed for a breakout campaign in 2025.
There wasn't as much praise, however, for the handling of the team's center position. With John Simpson nursing a back injury, the Jets have shifted starting center Joe Tippmann over to left guard while Josh Myers is filling in for Tippmann. Justin and Mike discuss whether or not this is a smart strategy.
The Brandon Stephens signing caught a lot of flak from Jets fans this offseason, and rightfully so. That said, the former Ravens cornerback has impressed so far this summer, and we talked about what the Jets might expect from him in 2025.
Finally, Justin and Mike broke down the Jets' upcoming preseason opener against the Packers this Saturday, taking a look at a couple of things to keep an eye on. Both of us were eager to see what the Jets' offense might look like, although we had varying takes on what specifically we'd like to see.
