By Justin Fried
In the latest episode of The Jet Press Podcast, Justin Fried and Mike Luciano react to the Joe Douglas firing and discuss the latest bombshell Woody Johnson report breaking down all the NY Jets drama.
Justin and Mike did their best to break down what has been a wild 24 hours for the Jets organization. From the firing of now-former general manager Joe Douglas to the extensive Woody Johnson report, Tuesday was a wild day for Jets fans.
The show started with a discussion centered around the Douglas firing. Most expected Douglas to be shown the door at the end of the season, but some were surprised to see the Jets officially move on before his contract officially expired.
What prompted Woody Johnson to fire Douglas midseason? Justin and Mike also took a big-picture look at Douglas' time with the Jets, analyzing his best moves and biggest misses. What will Douglas' legacy be with the Jets? Just how bad of a GM was he?
The second half of the show was dedicated to breaking down the bombshell report from The Athletic detailing Johnson's overbearing nature and his impulsive decision-making,
Johnson reportedly forced Douglas and the Jets to make multiple decisions, including vetoing an extension offer for Bryce Huff and benching safety Tony Adams. Those were both Woody decisions.
The report also insisted Johnson wanted the Jets to bench Aaron Rodgers following the team's Week 4 loss to the Denver Broncos. Justin and Mike shared some hesitancy when discussing that aspect of the report.
From social media influencing roster decisions to a proposed trade that Johnson nixed, we broke down the entire report in full detail. The Jets drama reached new heights on Tuesday.
