In the latest episode of The Jet Press Podcast, Justin Fried and Mike Luciano discuss the latest Aaron Glenn controversy and the return of our annual midseason Woody Awards, featuring votes for team MVP, LVP, Rookie of the Year, and a host of other awards.
The show started with a discussion about the recent controversy surrounding head coach Aaron Glenn. Glenn has seemingly made it his mission to be combative with the media at all costs, going to great lengths to pick fights with reporters.
His most recent tirade saw him lash out at the media following Rich Cimini's report that Garrett Wilson is set to miss the next 3-4 weeks with a knee injury. Apparently, Glenn wasn't happy that Cimini was...doing his job.
Glenn refused to provide any update on injuries to players this week in retaliation. While Justin argued that this was petty, childish, and unnecessary, both he and Mike agreed that it would have no bearing on his success in New York. Win football games, and no one will care.
The rest of the show was devoted to the return of our annual midseason Jets awards, nicknamed the Woody's, after our dear beloved (?) owner. Justin and Mike went through and awarded trophies to the likes of Breece Hall, Brandon Stephens, Justin Fields, and many others.
Who has been the Jets' MVP through 10 weeks? Who has been their least valuable player? An easy award was Rookie of the Year, which was unanimously given to right tackle Armand Membou, but some awards sparked genuine debates.
Breece Hall may be the unanimous Offensive Player of the Year on the Jets' roster, but who has been the Defensive Player of the Year? Justin and Mike had differing answers.
We also gave out some fun such as the "Does This Person Even Exist" award or the "Why Is This Guy On The Roster, What Does He Even Do?" award. Our third edition of the Woody Awards was a smashing success, outside of a brief glitch with Mike's internet.
Let us know who you think should have won each Jets award, and be sure to tune in at the end of the season for our next edition of the Woody's.
