In the latest episode of The Jet Press Podcast, Justin Fried and Mike Luciano discuss the New York Jets' offensive coaching staff hires, the latest Derek Carr rumors, and Sam Darnold winning the Super Bowl as quarterback of the Seattle Seahawks.
The show started — after some riffing — with a conversation about the newest additions to the Jets' coaching staff. The Jets finalized their offensive staff this week and added a notable assistant to the defensive side of the ball.
What do we think of the hires? Should Jets fans be excited about new defensive line coach Karl Dunbar? Does the team's offensive staff already look better than it did a year ago? We broke it all down.
One significant hire the Jets made was that of quarterbacks coach Bill Musgrave. Musgrave isn't only an experienced addition to Aaron Glenn's staff — he also has direct ties to a certain veteran quarterback who may be contemplating returning to the NFL.
The longtime NFL assistant notably crossed paths with Derek Carr in Oakland, serving as his offensive coordinator from 2015 to 2016, which was arguably the best period of Carr's NFL career.
Carr's close ties to Musgrave and his personal relationship with Glenn have led to rumors that the Jets could be in the market for the former Raiders quarterback if he opts to return to the league this upcoming season.
Justin and Mike discussed the viability of Carr possibly joining the Jets and whether we think it would be a good idea for the organization or not.
Finally, we took a look back at this past Sunday's Super Bowl, celebrating Sam Darnold's triumph and the failures of Drake Maye and the New England Patriots. Jets fans have every reason to celebrate, and Darnold absolutely feels the love from the fans of his former team.
