The Jet Press Podcast: Debunking the worst Jets preseason narratives and more

In the latest episode of The Jet Press Podcast, Justin Fried and Mike Luciano debunked some of the worst New York Jets summer narratives. Should Jets fans be concerned about Omar Cooper Jr.? Is Malachi Moore actually on the roster bubble? Let's talk about it!

The show opened with a few quick takeaways from last Friday's preseason opener against the Buccaneers, including encouraging signs from Cade Klubnik, another strong showing from David Bailey, and the breakout performance of everyone’s new favorite cornerback, Mory Bamba.

From there, Justin and Mike turned their attention to the summer narratives that have started to take on a life of their own...in all the worst ways. One of the biggest centered around Omar Cooper Jr.

The rookie wide receiver has somehow become the subject of panic despite a perfectly fine summer, largely because Isaiah Williams appears to be ahead of him in the WR3 competition. Justin and Mike broke down why Williams’ emergence does not automatically mean Cooper is struggling or that Jets fans should be concerned about his long-term outlook.

They also discussed whether this is finally the year Braelon Allen delivers on the breakout hype. Allen looked excellent in the preseason opener and should have more opportunities with Breece Hall sidelined for the time being, but Jets fans have heard this story before.

The safety room was another major topic. Dane Belton and Andre Cisco appear to be battling for the starting job, while Malachi Moore may now be fighting just to stay on the 53-man roster after entering camp with much higher expectations.

Justin and Mike also talked about Jelani Woods’ strong summer and whether he can carve out an actual offensive role before wrapping up with David Bailey and the Defensive Rookie of the Year conversation.
