In the latest episode of The Jet Press Podcast, Justin Fried and Mike Luciano break down the hiring of New York Jets defensive coordinator Brian Duker, discuss the latest coaching staff overhaul, the firing of Tanner Engstrand, and much more.
The Jets hired a new defensive coordinator on Wednesday, bringing in former Miami Dolphins defensive pass game coordinator/secondary coach Brian Duker to pair with Aaron Glenn, who has decided to call plays moving forward.
Justin and Mike react to the Duker news and discuss whether this is a good thing for the Jets or if they should have gone in a different direction. Was this a better alternative to the Wink Martindale route?
Both hosts agreed that there are some positives to Duker as defensive coordinator, most notably that it should be even easier for the Jets to evaluate Glenn now. This is Glenn's defense, and whether the unit succeeds or fails in 2026, it will be on Glenn.
We also discussed the Jets' overall plan this coaching cycle and what likely led to Glenn's change of heart. Was this a Woody Johnson special? Did Glenn simply change his mind? What went wrong with Martindale? We broke it all down.
The conversation then shifted to the offensive side of the ball, namely the team's leading offensive coordinator candidate, Frank Reich. Justin and Mike discussed a potential Reich addition and what that would mean for the Jets in 2026.
Would hiring Reich make it more likely the Jets target a quarterback like Alabama's Ty Simpson in the 2026 NFL Draft? What possible alternatives could the Jets consider if their Reich plans fall through?
Justin and Mike also spent quite a while answering questions from chat about everything from the Jets' coaching search to free agency and beyond. This was a very fun and active stream.
