In the latest episode of The Jet Press Podcast, Justin Fried and Mike Luciano discuss the devastating Alijah Vera-Tucker injury and offer bold predictions for the 2025 season. They're also joined by Tommy Jaggi of Still Curtain to preview the Jets' Week 1 matchup with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The first portion of the show was unfortunately dedicated to a discussion about Vera-Tucker's likely season-ending torn triceps. This is the second time that Vera-Tucker has suffered that same injury, though this one is on the opposite arm.
The Vera-Tucker injury threatens to derail the Jets' offensive line plans, both in the short and long term. In the short term, the Jets will likely start Josh Myers at center and have Joe Tippmann slide to right guard. The real problem is long-term, however.
Vera-Tucker was entering a contract year in 2025 and desperately needed a healthy season to earn a sizable payday. All of a sudden, his future in New York is very much in doubt. This could also affect the future of John Simpson, whose extension could be prioritized over Vera-Tucker.
Is it possible the Jets opt to keep Tippmann at guard beyond 2025 if he performs well this season? That's also a possibility we discussed.
Justin and Mike then went through and provided two bold predictions each for the upcoming 2025 season. Mike offered optimistic predictions for the likes of Mason Taylor and the Jets' secondary, while Justin had takes about the team's special-teams unit and Breece Hall's future.
Could Taylor finish his rookie year with over 800 receiving yards? Could Hall be traded by the deadline? There were some fun discussions to be had about the Jets' 2025 season.
Finally, Justin and Mike were joined by Still Curtain's Tommy Jaggi to discuss the team's Week 1 matchup with Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers. Tommy was able to provide expert analysis on all things Steelers, including some very interesting takes on Rodgers and Justin Fields.
What did Tommy think of Fields' 2024 tape with the Steelers? What does he make of what Pittsburgh's offense might look like with Arthur Smith and Rodgers in 2025? What about Broderick Jones' struggles? All of that was discussed.
