The Jet Press Podcast: 53-man roster predictions, preseason updates, joint practices

In the latest episode of The Jet Press Podcast, Justin Fried and Mike Luciano discussed the New York Jets' 30-10 win over the Green Bay Packers in their preseason opener, their updated 53-man roster predictions, and the Jets-Giants joint practices.

The show started with a discussion about the Jets' dominant win over the Packers in Saturday's preseason opener. Justin and Mike focused on broad takeaways from the game, including the stellar play of all of the Jets' offensive line units.

We then spoke a bit about offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand and the encouraging signs Jets fans saw from the team's offense this past weekend. Will that carry over into the regular season? It's too early to say, but the early takeaways have been promising.

That led into the bulk of the show, which was an updated look at some Jets 53-man roster predictions. There were a few surprising omissions, including wide receiver Allen Lazard, who could start the year on the PUP list or even find himself outright released/traded.

Justin had former UFL standout Brandon Smith making the 53-man roster, along with Xavier Gipson as his final two wide receiver spots.

Other notable names just missing the cut included QB Adrian Martinez/Brady Cook, RB Donovan Edwards, LB Ja'Markis Weston, CB Jarrick Bernard-Converse, DE Eric Watts, WR Jamaal Pritchett, and DT Payton Page. All have a chance to stick around in some capacity.

There were some interesting conversations to be had about both the Jets' wide receiver room and their current defensive line situation. Justin had the Jets keeping 10 total defensive linemen, but that's far from a guarantee.

Meanwhile, players like Jay Tufele and Jamin Davis seem to be pushing for regular roles on the Jets' defense. The latter represents an intriguing reclamation project for Gang Green after flaming out in Washington.

Justin and Mike also briefly discussed the Jets-Giants joint practices from this week and the team's remaining preseason slate of games.
