The NFL was thrown into chaos late Tuesday night when a stunning twist derailed what would have been one of the most significant trades we've seen in quite some time.
The Las Vegas Raiders announced that the Baltimore Ravens had backed out of the blockbuster Maxx Crosby deal that would have sent two first-round picks to Vegas after the star pass rusher reportedly failed his physical.
It’s an almost unprecedented development and one that could send ripple effects across the entire league. The New York Jets may not have been directly involved in the trade, but they could still end up benefiting from the fallout.

Jets could be unexpected beneficiaries of the Maxx Crosby debacle
As part of the now-collapsed deal, the Raiders were expected to acquire the No. 14 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft from the Ravens. That pick would have placed Las Vegas squarely ahead of the Jets, who currently hold selections at No. 2 and No. 16 overall.
With the trade now voided, the Raiders will not be picking at No. 14 after all. That could prove significant for the Jets, as Las Vegas had been widely linked to several of the same positions the Jets are expected to target in the middle of the first round, particularly wide receiver and offensive guard.
Those two spots have consistently appeared in projections for the Jets at No. 16. Now, one of the teams most likely to compete for those prospects may no longer be in position to do so.
The Jets have spent free agency to this point bolstering the defensive side of the ball, with major additions such as Minkah Fitzpatrick, Demario Davis, and Joseph Ossai chief among them. But the same attention has not been paid to offense.
The plan right now seems to be that the Jets will add low-tier players at wide receiver and offensive guard in free agency with the expectation that they will likely address both positions in the first two rounds of next month's draft.
It’s a risky strategy to back yourself into a corner and essentially force a specific position that early in the draft, especially when teams picking ahead of you are targeting many of the same spots.
But after the Crosby debacle, perhaps their most significant competition for both positions has effectively been removed. That could clear the path for a player like USC wide receiver Makai Lemon or Penn State offensive guard Vega Ioane to fall to the Jets at No. 16 overall.
Sometimes the biggest wins of the offseason come from moves a team didn’t even make. This stunning Maxx Crosby twist might quietly become one of the most important developments of the Jets' entire draft.
