Former New York Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner has never been shy about sharing his thoughts on social media... even if those thoughts don’t always stay up for long.
Jets fans are well aware of Gardner’s habit of tweeting, deleting, and reposting his opinions, and he was back at it again on Monday. This time, Gardner appeared to take an unprompted shot at his former team following the firing of defensive coordinator Steve Wilks.
In a — you guessed it — since-deleted tweet, Gardner praised Wilks, calling him “one of the best and smartest defensive coordinators in the NFL,” before appearing to take a jab at his former team with a final line that read, “it's not always what it seems.”
The tweet was posted and deleted multiple times, remaining up for a combined total of roughly 120 seconds. Why Gardner felt the need to add that final sentence is unclear, but it certainly reads as a direct shot at his former team.
dude has tweeted and deleted the same thing at least 2 times already make up your mind man, do you want to take shots at your old team or not lmao https://t.co/7TQyOe5fTu pic.twitter.com/iCxkBCrwlr

Sauce Gardner takes subtle jab at Jets following Steve Wilks firing
The Jets traded Gardner to the Indianapolis Colts at the deadline in a shocking deal that brought back two first-round picks and wide receiver Adonai Mitchell. While the move made sense for the Colts at the time, it has quickly started to look disastrous for the organization.
The Colts have won just one game since the trade, losing five of their last six and plummeting to 8-6 after a 7-1 start. Meanwhile, Gardner suffered a non-contact calf injury in his second game with the team and has yet to return. Oh, and starting quarterback Daniel Jones tore his Achilles earlier this month.
The surprise return of Philip Rivers wasn't enough to right the ship, although the Colts did manage to nearly pull off a stunning upset in Seattle on Sunday, albeit without their star cornerback, who remains sidelined.

Gardner has never been one to shy away from speaking his mind, and this is simply the latest in a long line of deleted tweets from the All-Pro cornerback. Still, this one feels like an unnecessary shot at his former team.
Gardner could have expressed his respect for Wilks and lamented his firing without adding a cryptic final line that invited speculation about his former team and put the spotlight on himself.
The Jets have moved forward as an organization since the Gardner trade, but it appears their former player hasn't yet done the same. Monday’s tweet only served as an unnecessary reminder that some bridges don’t need to be revisited.
