The past eight months have been tumultuous for the NY Jets. On-field struggles in 2024 combined with off-field drama have kept the team in the headlines for all the wrong reasons.
The hope is that new head coach Aaron Glenn and general manager Darren Mougey will be the initiators of change in an organization that has spent the better part of the last two decades residing in the NFL's basement.
One player who wants to help the team turn their fortunes around is Sauce Gardner. The two-time All-Pro cornerback has made it abundantly clear in recent weeks that he intends to stick around with the Jets long-term.
He doubled down on that notion with another clear message to both the Jets and his team's fan base on social media. Gardner insisted he doesn't like keeping secrets.
i don't like keeping secrets😂 that's why i don't hesitate to say i wanna be a Jet long term lol https://t.co/V78TA6E4tu

Sauce Gardner wants to remain with the NY Jets long-term
Gardner's tweet underscores his unwavering commitment to the team. By openly stating his desire to be a Jet for the long term, he continues to demonstrate his belief in the organization's future.
That's encouraging for Jets fans to hear, especially given the uncertainty surrounding another core member of the team's 2022 draft class, Garrett Wilson. Wilson's reported frustrations with the Jets have been well-documented, and many within the organization are still bracing for a possible trade request.
Both Gardner and Wilson will be eligible for extensions this offseason, so it may be in the Jets' best interest to lock them in quickly. With the salary cap expected to keep rising, retaining star players will only become more expensive over time.
Gardner is expected to become the highest-paid cornerback in NFL history whenever he receives his new contract. Despite a "down year" in 2024, Gardner is still the only cornerback since the NFL-AFL merger to be named first-team All-Pro in each of his first two seasons in the league.
As for his supposed "down year," Gardner still allowed just 25 catches in 15 games — fewer than any qualified NFL cornerback. He was still one of the best cornerbacks in the league in his worst season.
This isn't the first time Gardner has proven his commitment to the Jets. Just last week, the former Cincinnati star echoed a similar sentiment on social media, affirming his intent to remain in the team's long-term plans.
At just 24 years old, Gardner is a franchise cornerstone and a player the Jets must look to build around moving forward. It's safe to say Glenn and Mougey probably recognize that.
Gardner wants to stick around in Florham Park and the Jets likely feel the same way. Here's to hoping an extension gets done in the near future.
