Rory McIlroy made golf history on Sunday, winning his second consecutive Masters Tournament and becoming the first repeat winner since Tiger Woods in 2001 and 2002.
It was a momentous day for McIlroy and his fans around the world, but not so much for New York Jets fans. If you've been on social media over the last 24 hours, there's a good chance that the unfortunate statistic being paraded around as the latest "LOLJets" punchline appeared on your feed.
Yes, McIlroy was able to secure two green jackets before the Jets were able to record an interception, a seemingly mind-boggling feat that only New York would be able to accomplish.
The good news is, the Jets have plenty of time until the 91st Masters Tournament to break that streak and restore some respect to the franchise within the world of sports.
Rory McIlroy wins 2 Masters before the Jets can record an interception
As everyone likely already knows, the Jets went the entire 2025 season without hauling in a pick, something that seems almost impossible when it comes to the modern-day NFL.
Not a single errant pass, a batted ball at the line of scrimmage, or even an arm punt fell into a Jets defender's arms. It was the first time in modern NFL history that such a thing occurred.
But the Jets are doing everything in their power to prevent that from happening two years in a row, and it started with an overhaul of New York's defensive staff.
Out is Steve Wilks, in is Brian Duker, who will assist head coach Aaron Glenn as he takes over defensive play-calling duties. Duker was the Miami Dolphins' pass game coordinator last season and helped the Miami defense haul in nine interceptions.
The Jets also overhauled their personnel in the defensive backfield, letting safety Tony Adams walk in free agency and adding former first-round pick Minkah Fitzpatrick and Dane Belton.
Fitzpatrick, a five-time Pro Bowler, has a history of generating turnovers. He's hauled in 21 interceptions over his eight-year career. Belton, on the other hand, has only four years in the NFL under his belt, but has still managed to record six interceptions.
At cornerback, the Jets signed Nahshon Wright, a Pro Bowler with the Chicago Bears last season, who managed to bring in five interceptions in his first season as a full-time starter.
There's no guarantee the Jets will be able to snap their interception-less streak in 2026, but they've certainly taken the proper steps to prevent it from happening again.
We'll check back in again next April and see if the Jets can pull it off before McIlroy slips on his third green jacket.
