Will Aaron Rodgers play again this season? (Oddsmakers predict his chances of returning)

New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers ruptured his Achilles in Week 1 of the 2023 NFL season, but that hasn’t stopped him from trying to recover in time to return this season. 

This week, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that Rodgers is eyeing a return in Week 16 this season, but will that actually happen? 

With the Jets falling further out of the playoff race, it may not make sense for Rodgers to return. With his status up in the air, oddsmakers took a shot at providing odds for if he will play this season or not.

Rodgers appears to be targeting a return for Week 16, but it’s hard to imagine him being able to play at 100 percent after tearing his Achilles just a few months ago. Still, it would be an impressive feat if he can return to the field. 

The issue becomes the reasoning behind Rodgers’ return. 

Does he just want to get on the field to prove he was able to recover? Or is this about the Jets making the playoffs?

After New York lost a third straight game in Week 11, Jason McCourty wondered if it is worth it for Rodgers to push himself to come back for New York. 

There is also a good chance that the Jets are eliminated by Week 16, which would essentially mean the team would be putting Rodgers at further risk for injury with no reward in sight. It’s hard to see that happening. 

Odds for Aaron Rodgers to return this season

They have him listed at +180 to play another snap in the 2023 season, which is an implied probability of 35.71 percent. While Rodgers may be eyeing a return, it could be less likely now that the Jets have lost three straight games. 

With New York slipping out of the playoff race, and the offense struggling mightily, there’s no doubt that a healthy Rodgers would help. However, it’s hard to see New York bringing him back into the fold if the team can’t make the postseason.

New York Jets odds to make the playoffs

The Jets are currently +1000 to make the playoffs at DraftKings. That’s an implied probability of just 9.09 percent. 

With the AFC playoff picture looking as crowded as ever, it’s hard to expect much from this New York team that has scored one offensive touchdown in the last three weeks. As long as the team’s odds to make the playoffs remain this long – I can’t see the Jets having Rodgers play unless he forces himself onto the field.
