The NY Jets have a new starting quarterback for their second preseason game, and his name is Andrew Peasley. The undrafted rookie will take center stage in the Jets' preseason contest against the Carolina Panthers tonight.

Peasley will be joined by preseason Week 1 hero Adrian Martinez as the only two active quarterbacks for tonight's game. Tyrod Taylor is technically dressed, but he will only play in case of emergency.

That means Peasley and Martinez will likely each receive a half of football to make an impact. Both quarterbacks impressed in the Jets' preseason opener a week ago, with Peasley finishing 8-of-11 for 73 yards and a touchdown.

His highlight of the day came on a gorgeous back-shoulder throw to wide receiver Jason Brownlee in the corner of the end zone for what was the Jets' first touchdown of the afternoon. But who is Peasley? Who is this young, unknown QB?

Who is Andrew Peasley?

A three-star recruit out of La Grande, Oregon, Peasley originally committed to Utah State in 2018, but after spending four years primarily as a starter, he opted to transfer to Wyoming.

In two seasons as a full-time starter with the Cowboys, Peasley threw for 30 touchdowns and 14 interceptions, completing 57 percent of his passes while also adding seven touchdowns on the ground.

Peasley went 17-9 as a starter at Wyoming, helping lead to the team to its first nine-win campaign in 27 years this past season. His performance helped secure Wyoming a victory over Toledo in the Barstool Sports Arizona Bowl.

At 6-foot-1, 215 pounds, Peasley was not invited to the NFL Combine and went unselected in the 2024 NFL Draft. He didn't even initially sign with the Jets as an undrafted free agent, only joining the team on May 6th after a successful tryout at rookie minicamp.

Peasley has steadily improved throughout Jets training camp, earning praise from his teammates and coaching staff. He has the early edge for the team's de facto QB3 job, given that he's been with the organization longer than Martinez, who only signed last month.

If Peasley can continue to stack positive performances and impress the Jets' coaching staff, he should have an opportunity to stick around on the practice squad as the third-string quarterback behind Aaron Rodgers and Tyrod Taylor while rookie Jordan Travis recovers.
