Playoffs? We're talking about playoffs, indeed. The NY Jets surged to a shocking 20-17 victory over the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, and in the process, they significantly improved their odds of making the postseason.

For a Jets team that hasn't made the playoffs in 11 years, nearly double the second-longest streak in the NFL, the possibility that the franchise could return to the postseason for the first time in over a decade is starting to become a reality.

Per Football Outsiders, the Jets now have a 69.6 percent chance of making the playoffs this season, up over 15 percent from last week. FiveThirtyEight is a bit more pessimistic with the Jets giving them a 58 percent chance of making the postseason, up less than five percent after this past Sunday.

But if you're looking for a more favorable projection, the folks over at PlayoffStatus.com give the Jets a 71 percent chance of returning to the playoffs. No matter what source you use, the Jets have a greater than 50 percent chance of making the postseason.

The NY Jets playoff odds have dramatically increased

It's not just the playoffs that are in reach for the Jets either. Football Outsiders now gives the Jets a 15.2 percent chance to win the AFC East outright with the Bills falling to 63.1 percent following their Week 9 loss.

Of course, besting the powerhouse Bills may seem unlikely on paper, but Buffalo has already lost their first two divisional games to their two toughest competitors. Josh Allen's status also remains unclear at the time of writing.

The playoffs are a very realistic outcome for a Jets team that heads into their bye week with a 6-3 record. With upcoming matchups against the Chicago Bears, Detroit Lions, and Jacksonville Jaguars, the Jets should have a golden opportunity to secure a few more wins.

The AFC wild-card picture is crowded with 6-3 and 5-4 teams right now, but if the Jets go 4-4 in their final seven games and finish 10-7, that should be enough to secure them a playoff spot. Of course, given how they've started the year, they'll have their sights set on an even better finish.

The Jets are looking to snap a historic playoff drought, and right now, they're very much on track to do so.
